No not really, if you have a site and want to redirect your mobile traffic just do sub-domain m.mysite.com or mysite.com/m you don't need .mobi domain

I believe you can do this quite easily in cPanel. Create the subdomain: Creating a subdomain - CPanel Tutorials - Hosting Control Panel - Dayana Host and then redirect it: Redirecting web pages in cPanel If those tutorials aren't clear enough just ask and I'll try to explain it better |

The redirect mentioned above is not what you want. That will just permanently redirect one url to another. You want a mobile redirect code which detects if users are on mobile devices, if they are they are redirected automatically to the mobile version.
