Bulk Mobile Website Checker?

Is there such a thing as a bulk mobile website checker? I'm just curious because while one of the lead generators I have kind of does this, it's often wrong... i.e. says they have a mobile site when they don't...

And plugging URL after URL into an emulator is mind numbing... I will eventually outsource this, but right now I am looking for specific things when I test their websites, and so it'd be hard to walk someone else through the process.... sometimes I'm even looking FOR mobile websites instead of all the ones that are not.

I would love to be able to upload a set of URLs somewhere, and have it spit out screen shots of what their websites look like... if someone could create this, I'd be your first customer...

Dont know about that checking screens, maybe together with the firefox plugin?

I use a leadscraper that shows if they have a M. a .MOBI or WAP. But that still doesn't say if they already put a mobile website on it. But if they dont have one of those they DONT have a mobile website, so you only have to check the wensite in firefox using the Iphone plugin. Saves me time. i just check before I call.

I think we have the same scraper... but I've found it to be at least partially inaccurate in a number of instances one way or the other. Not knocking it, because I love it... but still... there is always room to improve.

Mine spits back a ton of duplicates too, a lot of the time...

And, when you end up with over 2k leads to check... like I said... mind numbing. Sure, I could assume they don't... and I often do... but again sometimes I am looking for sites that DO have a mobile component on a niche by niche basis... KWIM?

I think we do use the same

But I do websearch only and I didn't get any bad result if all 3 are NO. but still I like to check the website to get to know MORE about the company before I call them up

think i get what you mean. So you can offer them specific services for a nische?

I just purchased this wso a few days ago and absolutely love this tool. It checks for a mobile version of the site and allows you to look at it through a emulator and take snapshots of the images. http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...w-clients.html
In no way am I affiliated with the person involved with its production, just a happy customer. Hope this helps.

I saw the WSO. Its 4 times as much as the one we're talking about and it seems to be only for the US. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And the addon of it doesn't add anything since you can do that for free with mobilizer. So in my opinion its offering less for 4 times the price of what we (at least I) are talking about.

Hadrian is looking for something where there is NO need to look for yourself. He's looking for something that makes 100% SURE if they have or dont have a mobile website. Since I dont use what you guys are talking about I dont know if it gives back a result saying NO MOBILE but it does have a mobile website anyway. But thats what Hadrian DOESN'T want

So maybe you can enlighten him on that?

I think you may have misunderstood MUNK26.

In mobile renegade it's two separate functions. It has a column that automatically checks if they are mobile optimized or not as you scrape the leads. So it says YES, NO, or N/A (if they have no website).

Then a completely separate feature is that you can then click on a lead, and see the site through a mobile emulator and take a snapshot.

I have not had an instance where it was not mobile optimized and it said it was.

But I don't know how it checks that, so I don't know what the degree of error is either.

        No I didn't misunderstand

And like you tell it it looks like it's exactly what he's looking for depending yes or no errors!

To bad it only scrapes yellow papers, but then again, I like looking at the website before I call to get to know them a little upfront

I'm not sure about the product you're currently using and cannot speak on that. As far as the lead sources and the places it can be used here's what the creator has to say Q: Where does it get leads from, and do you plan on adding anywhere else?

A: Mobile Renegade Finds leads From YellowPages and YellowBook

    USA
    Australia
    Canada
    United Kingdom

** UK yellow pages DOES NOT PROVIDE EMAILS,
so if that is what your looking for DO NOT BUY THIS TOOL
also, Proxies will be required for United Kingdom searches.

Now to answer your question about doing the same thing with Mobilzer as compared to the other tool. Yes you could but the difference is that you can compare what Mobile Renegade say is mobile ready right from within the software, pull up the external tool to verify it and take a snapshot of your findings all within the software. I would take a pic. and show what I mean but don't know if the product creator would allow that.

I would love to use Mobile Renegade if only to just try it out, but unfortunately I am on a mac, and as far as I know, this software is not based on Air, and does not work across platforms.

I do not currently have a virtual machine set up... I need a new copy of Windows to do this... so, I will have to wait apparently. Bummer.

The other scraper is great, but there is a LOT of room for improvement the more I use it if you KWIM...

Maybe Munk and Maxwell can help you out by providing 1 CSV with results that you can check. If it works as expected maybe you can work at a deal for providing until you set up a virtual

None of these tools will be 100% accurate. There are far too many different redirect scripts and the like out there and none of these tools I have found can give you a 100% accurate answer,

What I recommend people do is to not waste time looking for mobile sites. The vast majority of businesses out there do NOT have a mobile site. On the off chance you contact someone who does, they may even prefer your design over their current one or they may be looking for extra functionality.

I don't see that checking for mobile sites is a great use of your time. You'll cover a lot more ground just getting out there and contacting businesses regardless.

That is correct, even Mobile Renegade is not 100%
However it is one of the most accurate.

For those wanting to know, it checks for over 2 dozen known redirects,
(including some java redirects ) Screen display , header, inner html links to mobile ,wapforum and other checks, including checking for mobile apps before the redirect.

its not 100% but its definitely around 90-95%

@ WillR, ill even back that up to by giving you a free copy.

Guaranteed... The only way you can reliably know for sure is by whipping out your iphone and loading the site up and that takes time. Your point is a fine one! You can get hung up and wildly distracted from the number 1 goal... making money.

However, there is the Can Spam act for sending emails... and I believe you would have a lot better standing if you check the website to see if the potential customer falls into your remit of actually requiring your services before you blast them?
