Signs for SMS Opt-Ins
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Has anyone here posted up a sign/poster/flyer in your town with a Text to Opt-In for a deal?

What do you think would work best, offering local deals and discounts, or text to win a prize, etc.

Anybody have experience with this?

Hundreds of signs, mdozens of offers. Signs don't pull very well. 1 to 5% no matter what we offer or how well made.

Not worth it then to make an opt-in sign and put it in a public place?

I didn't say that. I don't know if it's worth it for you because I don't know your costs or goals. You asked for people with experience to answer, and that has been the run of our experience with our own signs and client signage.

That's why I was asking if it's not worth it, not stating.

I am not building a list for a client, I am just planning on putting signs up to build my list of locals (that I can later sell to clients), and I'm curious which is the best method to get people to opt-in.

I mean I could say text in to get local deals, or text in for your chance to win something.

Just curious about what would be the best offer for this approach.

And your saying 1-5% is the best you're getting for your clients. So is Mobile Marketing even worth pursuing as far as building clients a list?

No. I tried to say that signs suck. We're used to ignoring them so we do.

The best way I've seen a customer build a good list is by personal invitation. That builds a good trust-based database very quickly. Opt-in rates are above 60%. But it's hard work.

One percent can still get the job done, if you have enough eyeballs and display for enough time.

Has anyone compared the performance of signs bearing text vs QRCode?

Texting while driving is becoming an issue in many states. It just became a violation in Idaho to text while driving. I'm finding it much easier to set up URL leading to a website with a sign up form linked to a text list for local specials. You'll need something people will remember like www.5BSale.com and a QRCode below it with something like "Get A Free Large Pizza"

5BSale.com
QRCode

Hope this helps...

Proximity and relevance matters for sms offers. If I'm at the library confronted with a text for offer for a restaurant I'm less likely to optin than if I'm already at that restaurant, I would be a "hot" prospect.

Thank you guys for your feedback,

Mo you're correct, however I'm banking on the fact that not all cars will be solely the person driving. I mean if you're driving and your wife is riding passenger, you guys spot the deal and she's able to text in if she'd like.

And yes of course I agree placement is key.

You could get 1000 business cards with a simple message and hand them out on college campuses or something similar. Its like everything else, if the offer is good and is attractive to the prospect, many will opt in to get the deal. Younger people text dozens of times per day, so its not big deal to them and I would think a variety of offers would work in that market. Then again, it takes some time and money to test it out.

Text to win would probably be the more effective route to consider
