When selling a small biz an app...

Android/Google will let just about any app get published, but Apple isn't as easy.

I know a lot of people talk about selling apps to small businesses, and promote programs about it, etc.. BUT... will Apple allow you to put a small business app with contact info, about us, a map and a menu/etc on their store or do you have to explain to these small business owners that their app will only be able to be downloaded on Androids?

Well normally I convince them to do both. And always start with Android apps.
Anyway, at the end we must implement two versions, one for android and one for iOS. Show them that market share of android is growing, and iPhone is losing its primitive domination : StatCounter Global Stats - Browser, OS, Search Engine including Mobile Market Share

I'm not much into the app side of things as yet but my understanding was an Android app can also be downloaded and installed outside of the App store. So I could technically just link to the download file on my site and people could install it that way. Whereas an Apple app can only be downloaded and installed via their App store.

Is this true? If so, then that is a big advantage to local businesses using apps.

Will it is true that Android apps can be installed directly without going through the Google Play store. You can put on a server and they can download direct or even use a QR code to direct them to the file. The only caveat is that many Android devices by default a security setting set to no for 'Allow installation of non-Market apps'. So you would need to have instructions for the user to disable that feature in order to directly install an Android app.

It is true that in Android there are more installation sources, not only Google Play, while in iOS it is only the AppStore but this is actually a double-edged knife.

On the question whether you can upload such small biz app in the AppStore the answer is yes! Clear example is this product: ServiceMaster of Alexandria- App Store - ServiceMaster of Alexandria
If you started submitting several low quality apps I am certain they would start turning them back.

That's a good advice of getting your own iOS dev account being banned, thanks for that ...
