Does the iPAd and iPhone see websites in the same way?
Share on:

Hey all my friendly fellow warriors,

Ok, I just got the "new" ipad (3) and I was curious about how it views websites compared to the iPhone.

I was told that the ipad is just a larger version of an iphone. Yes, I now,, with a few better qualities. And, being I'm waiting till November to get the iphone 5, I don't have a way to compare the two. (My girl has one but she's mad at me and away on a biz kickoff for her software company.)

So, do they see websites the same way? I'm asking for the reason of using my ipad to show clients that their sites suck on a iphone or tablet. But, I would hate to tell a client that their site blows, because it blows on my ipad but is ok on the iphone.

Do ya get what I'm asking?

On a iphone you will need to zoom a lot. Compare to an ipad, you can read an see entire website without zooming it, you might have to zoom for some websites that do not display full width or to read some small fonts.

Usually I don't recommend going out with an ipad or tablet to meet client, he will tell you that it's fine like this, doesn't need a mobile site. Do you a favor buy an iphone or android smartphone.

A mobile website will look 100% good on it and will make your prospect sign for your service.

Yeah,, I do have a Windows/Samsung smart phone. I was just wondering mainly about the iphone. Because,, I don't believe the ipad has flash, so won't some sites suck if they use flash, or have animation or other moving parts?

Most sites work quite well with an iPad - the only moving things that won't work are flash - wouldn't advise using it for prospective mobile clients.

Not gonna use it for anything other than showing mobile demo sites(images) and maybe a powerpoint presentation with simple slides with text only. Nothing with flash.

Hi Robert X

For a true mobile experience don't show you clients the site on a iPad! Likewise dont show a mobile site on a iPad either lol Typically newer sites will look just fine on an iPad in particular responsive layouts. A mobile site on an iPad would just look super stretched and in most instances out of proportion. Hence why you need to make sure you dont redirect iPads to your mobile site!

If you don't have an iPhone i think the phone you have, the Samsung, should be capable of doubling up as a WIFI hotspot I know mine does. If it does you might want to consider showing clients sites using an iPod Touch that's the closest you will get to an iPhone4 without it actually being one. It will give you a much better representation over an iPad.

If you show potential clients flash on your Samsung its going to work just fine! lol Have found more clients are familiar with the iPhone and typically tend to have one, if they have one then i recommend you let them do it themselves, you cant beat an actual hands on user experience. We do that with QR codes and SMS it extremely interactive and gets your client more personally involved. Once your client sees what a pain it is to pinch and zoom in and out you will already have them won over!

HTH

Yes, the phone I have will and does work just fine to show clients their sites. But , I do like that idea, like mentioned above, to ask a client to view their site on their OWN phone. What a great idea! See,, that's why I love this forum. People come together and create ideas with input from several sources. Really, I use a little of everything.

Imagine that,, walking in to a business, and simply asking the owner, (or who's in charge) to take 10 seconds to look at the company's site on their OWN phone so they can see how dreadful it is on a mobile phone. Or even an email after you check it out yourself first, of course. And have your link to your business explaining mobile wesites and marketing. Or, handing the biz owner your card or a postcard, pamphlet, or brochure,, or whatever you want.

A simple "Look at your site, it doesn't work on a mobile phone. I can help you fix that"

Gonna test this out.

Robert X

p.s. I can get an iphone right now, I'm just waiting for the 5 in Nov.

Thanks,, But my upgrade isn't till November. It's like this, wait till Nov, and pay $199, or, get it now and pay $400+. Well,, I've learned from this forum to NOT chase the next, new shiny object (product) and that includes phones.

To everyone,,, Learn to be patient. Let the "hype" pass, and then take a look at what you absolutely thought you HAD to have. I now make myself research almost everything that I purchase,,, especially IM products. I typically take several days before I purchase to let it sink in.

Yeah, I'm getting that the iPad is not like the iphone. I don't know where I heard that, maybe from the salesman. Not sure, but someone said that the ipad is just a large iphone. Appearantly, that's not the case. Guess I'll just have to wait till November to get the iphone 5. I just wanted to look cool with the whole set up. (iPad w/iPhone) Then I'd almost be like a mobile superhero,,, Like WillR.

Thanks,

Robert X

p.s. Would showing up with a cape on reading SMM be too much? (SMM = SuperMobileMan) Maybe it's a bit too soon

An iPad will not show a "mobile" site even if you have the mobile redirect on the main site because it is not recognized as a "mobile" device, even though it kind of is....

thats not strictly true, some redirect scripts will lump ipads in as mobile device - just be sure to test, not all scripts are designed the same, some will give you the option to toggle the redirect for ipads whilst others just consider them all mobile...
