Please do this I'm doing this on my mobile phone because my PC is busy downloading a complete back-up from Carbonite due to a hard drive crash. Please back-up. There are several companies you can use to back-up off site. That way if the worse happens, like a fire, you still have your data. It's better to spend a day restoring your data than weeks trying to recreate it. |
Re: Please do this Yup, Everyone should be doing this. What company do you use to back up? |
Re: Please do this I use dropbox for all my main files. |
Re: Please do this I've also started using Dropbox. Also handy when you need to share files with developers or business partners. |
Re: Please do this Same here, Ive been using drop box and I really love its features of creating instant online sharable photo galleries. |
Re: Please do this I use carbonite. They can back-up your OS also. |
Re: Please do this Good points Steve! I recently got a 1TB USB 3 drive to backup my mac and pc and feel a bit safer now, but in the worst case of physical water or fire damage to my place I'd be up the creek. May have to try out Carbonite though. Dropbox has been just too slow for the few files I've shared with people there, I couldn't imagine backing up 100GB or more with them, but Carbonite's no size limit for a small yearly fee seems more than reasonable. Cheers, Steve |
Re: Please do this There are several backup providers on the internet. Google "online backup". |
Re: Please do this I too use dropbox, but the free version is only 2GB and that is not as much as it sounds. I had a bad crash due to the ukash virus last week, which cost me 2 days to recover. I have now decided to work from USB sticks, no data on the hard drive except software. Sticks 1-7 for each weekday rotating, and then 4 sticks for each week stored at another place. Should there be another virus attack destroying everything I can buy a new computer and be up and running within two hours. |
Re: Please do this Dropbox is the best and easiest way to go. I got the $9.99/month package with 50GB awhile ago, but they recently upgraded the account to 100GB...not bad at all. |
Re: Please do this I use dropbox too, but I never feel 100% secure putting all my faith in one company to store all of my data. What's another good company I can use? Either way, I always back everything up on an external just to be safe. |
Re: Please do this another +1 for dropbox - ive actually started backing up a lot of my sites directly to dropbox now too :) one other thing i would highly recommend and its extremely handy too - is xmarks to backup your bookmarks - its also an essential addon for anyone who uses more than 1 machine as you can sync your bookmarks across all devices even mobile! :) hope that helps someone - losing a few years bookmarks can be detrimental to your business and they are often over looked. cheers jay |
Re: Please do this Hey Steve Thanks for the suggestion, we must have backup of our important files. I uses Dropbox for the purpose, and it is really a nice service. |

Re: Please do this what company is BEST for back up? |
Re: Please do this I recently started using SugarSync. Their free storage starts at 5Gig and it is easy to increase it. I have files synced between 2 computers and my phone, but I can also share files with a partner and avoid worrying about version numbers on files. |
Re: Please do this I think you need to use external disk for backup. |

Re: Please do this If you have the ability, or do development i highly recommend putting subversion on another computer on your network. It really is the best method next to time machine or manual back ups to an external drive... |
Re: Please do this Is this an IT forum or a Mobile Marketing Forum? LOL Just kidding Dropbox is great to sync up all your files and make them accessible anywhere you are ! |
Re: Please do this Quote:
I should totally get a backup done asap, it's been a while. I used to backup to CD's back in the days, then DVD's. But given the low survival rate of those mediums that's no long term solution. Also by today's standards they just can't take enough data. When switching from IDE disks I decided to back all my important data to those drives, they are now safely stowed away in the basement. Then again I probably won't be able to plug them in anywhere in a few years time. ;) Online storage is probably the best solution for now. But is it safe? |
Re: Please do this Try Google Drive Gives you up to 10gb for free storage and email sharing |
Re: Please do this Nice idea to promote carbonite but i am already using dropbox. |
Re: Please do this Dropbox is good but it only stores/shares files. Your software installs of course won't be backed up... |

I try and avoid using their solutions as much as I can. A monopoly is good for no-one. |
Re: Please do this I use drop box as well and it saved me 2 times from my total total data lost I also back up my favorites and use delicious so in case anything happens I am up and running in no time I have another back up where I save my files every week in my extranal hard drive Cheers Saniya |
Re: Please do this My votes are in. Good luck with it mate. |
Re: Please do this A great idea, thanks for the reminder. Contantly tell myself need to back up all the files before some virus hit the hard drive and keep on postponing. I guess it's too late when that happens so we all have to remember to back our data. thanks. |
Re: Please do this I use Drop box and i find it good to back up. |
Re: Please do this DropBox + an external hard drive to back up PC = peace of mind! |
Re: Please do this Quote:
back it up with optical storage.... no one can access it |
Re: Please do this Drop box is very handy not only for backup purposes but also transferring large files is much easier |
