Big issue for mobile sites + hotels?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey guys and gals, quick topic for you.

In designing a mobile site for hotels,
let's say...THIS ONE
Official Hotel Atlanta Midtown Hotels | Luxury Atlanta Hotels | Georgian Terrace Hotel
should or--or is there a way--to let guests
book from the mobile sites we are building
or is this just too complex?

Thanks,

Lawton

You would need to write a mobile front-end to their reservation pages. This shouldn't be too hard for an experienced developer though this is a bit above the normal "$99 Mobile package".

OK yeah sounds complex but i'm sure it's worth it.

Don't know if folks are booking through their phones yet
by tapping. Calling yes, mobile credit input, not so sure.

It's definitely something that could be worth it and it depends on the current reservation system they use for their standard website. Some hotels use third party booking systems hosted on their own websites and some of the more popular systems might already be mobile friendly. You would need to do your research.

It is going to be more complex to create than just a simple mobile website but as the other poster said above, complex means you can charge higher fees.

That particular site is already mobile enabled and has a mobile booking system.

Maybe you could chase up who is doing it for them and go from there.

When dealing with hotels, restaurants etc most use third party booking systems so very hard to work with unless their system is already mobilized.

For restaurant reservations the best and easiest service to integrate into your site is OpenTable. They now have a mobile optimized version:
OpenTable Mobile

In regards to Hotel bookings, I have never worked with Hotels before so I'm not sure what the common booking services are. If you do uncover some solutions though, be sure to let us all know.

Yup, I have found several times that I have to actually check it on my phone to see if they do have a mobile site. I would say about 1/2 the time Mobilizer isn't picked up by the clients website to go to a mobile site. Learned that tip from WillR.

Yep, spot on.

Mobilizer won't pick up all types of redirection so unfortunately it cannot be replied upon 100%. I don't use Mobilizer for determining whether a site is mobile or not. The best way to do that is with an actual mobile device.

This is certainly possible but there are multiple challenges. I don't know if this is the actual property you are targeting but, as an example, this hotel is operated by a management company.

Generally, individual hotels are not in a position to act autonomously for decisions that would involve their IT Dept. Integration to their reservation system would need approval from the corporate level. Generally, they do not approve a one off type of opportunity, rather, they look for solutions to impact all properties.

That said, the next obstacle is the fact they manage multiple brands with different reservation systems (i.e. Marriott, Starwood, IHG). To integrate with these systems, you would need approval and certification from the IT Depts of each respective brand - a very tough sell! Especially since these branded chains already have mobile RSVP capabilities.

You could suggest a direct lead to the individual hotel where they could manually enter the reservation into the system and they would have to provide a confirmation number back to the guest.

Generally, hotels are not staffed to handle these manual type of processes which could lead to human error and financial exposure to chargebacks on their end.

My suggestion would be to avoid branded hotels and look for smaller independents without a sophisticated back office.

You can use script like this and edit the css, it would take just couple of hours or so to do

PHP Scripts - Online Hotel Booking System | CodeCanyon
