How I made $1200 this past weekend selling mobile sites
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey gang,

My fellow Warriors!!! How ya all doin' tonight? Alright!

Well,, it took a while to put together but,, I finally got it together and launched my mobile biz. I have been here for a while now getting all the info and everything set up,,, whew!!! A lot of you have seen me. (This is just my first crack at mobile,, always been a IM'er for the past 10 years,, well,, a dabbler with some ok success, but now I may quit my day job,, and I make a lot)

Now,,I will tell you what I did to get $1200 buck-a-roonies,, 1200 smack-a-doodles,, 1200 samolians. Cold hard cash, my brothas. On my 1st attempt no less!

Ok,, It took a while but that's because I had to go through a ton of materials, training courses,, and bought every wso for mobile marketing. I went in with a NO FAIL attitude. You MUST have this in order to succeed. Aim to be the greatest ever! So if you're not,, you'll still be pretty damn good.

Ok, Ok,,, 1st)... I decided on a biz name. Rockstar Mobile Media (Free)

2nd),, I got a domain with that name,, or close. ($10?)

3rd.) I filed the name with the city. You must do this to get the papers to open a bank account in your biz name(in the U.S.). Don't forget this people, you can't just get checks made out to a business name and cash them,, it won't work. And what biz wants to write checks to a persons name? They dont know you. A business seems more trustworthy than some dude sayin' "hey, write me a check, dammit. ($40 I think.)

4th) I opened a bank account in my new biz name. Need a place to dump the cash that's allegedly gonna be raining down on my head. (free)

5th) Next I got a new phone #. Only $9mo,, but worth it. (I have another biz so I don't wanna mix up calls, ("Hello, Rockstar,, oops I mean...),

6th) Website. Now, this is not totally necssary, but I want to look establised and professional. But you can do this without one,, right up until a client wants to see YOUR site. Also, a site provides a place to educate potential clients and them have them fill out their info. Like a squeeze page but much larger .

Ok,, then I got the Localizer Lead tool. I think from here. $97 bucks. With this software, you can choose any niche, in any city in the world, and it will seek out all the info about every business in that niche, in that city. It gives name, numbers, websites and even emails. I ONLY have used the emails so far. By the way,, I chose bailbonds in San Diego, CA. Turns out the biz I sold 2 sites to was in Minnasota. I did it all by email. NO PERSONAL CONTACT! This software takes 20 seconds to find 300 leads,, not 300 emails,, but 300 leads.

So, I picked out all the emails and sent out a blast with a simple email that said I can't view your company website on my phone. With a little expanation of their problem and how I can help to solve it. Very soft selling. Not even selling,, just trying to get them to see a video. So, I sent out about 100 emails. I got 1 response so far but, 1 was worth $1200!
And the emails took about 10 minutes. I only email out 25 at a time, And I use Bcc. ( I read up on spamming) Well, one bailbonds company emailed me,, asked how much,, I said $597 + Hosting. He said Ok,,,

Now, I have WillR's My Mobile Business and learned a ton of stuff from his training course. But I used Mobile Marketing XT to build the sites,, super awesome software, combined with Will's Lil Red Snapper. It's drag and drop,, super easy,, you can easily install video as well on these sites.

So, I made up a site in about 2 hours,, sent it to him as a mock up,, he liked it, and said he had another location and wanted a whole new site for that one too. $597 X 2= $1194.00 + Monthly hosting. I made the 2nd site even faster. Maybe 1 hour. I'm not kidding. This stuff is easy and fast to do and you can make a killing. Yes,, I'm on the high end,, but isn't that where you wanna be?

So,, now I'm gonna do more email blasts in other niches to test what's best,, if there is such a thing. I tried Chiropractors and I got 2 calls that I still need to respond to. They were missed calls and they didn't leave a message, so I'm gonna try my hand at semi-cold calling. Hope I don't stu stu ststststst, stutter.

Any questions?

Robert X

Thanks to all my fellow Warriors that have made $1200 smackers possible. In 3 hours,, or 4,, does it matter?

Update 2/9/14: Sorry everyone for not responding as often. All posts must always fade away at some point to make room for the more modern stuff. But, just to add a little more to this post, the dude that I sold these 2 sites came back and asked for 2 more,, so, I made nearly $2400 and $76 monthly just for his 4 sites (many others as well). I've been focusing on Real Estate and Facebook and will be back with some awesome info! Stay tuned. And, I got my site hacked (The Warrior Syndicate.com) but am finally rebuilding!!! Me----> ...... I'm a full blown IM'er and have a few ventures going at the moment. I like to make money in every niche,,, and I wanna master them all!!! Hahaha!!! And I'm gonna put some great, free informative videos on my site real soon

The Mobile Marketing XT is drag and drop system. They host the sites,, I got them down to $4 mo by asking. But,, it's almost $400. So,, it's not cheap. But I made the money back already. And these were my first sites other than my own.

Robert,

Congratulations on your success.

I've seen you doing a lot of prep for this over the last month or so and am glad to see you finally got your first sale... and not a bad one at that.

By the way, I like the name of your business.

Nice timeline - very helpful. I did an emailing and got only one response (which told me his site looks okay on a mobile phone - hardly). Anyway, that's a good niche for mobile.

Reading your post encourages me. I definitely need to get some sites sold as I have the same software available to me, but I am paying monthly as part of their broader Apps/Mobile Web/SMS package.

How much did you charge for the hosting and did you have any problems getting the ftp lo-gin info to the main site (did he know it or did you have to contact the original web designer)?

Well, I jumped on this so fast I literally forgot to mention hosting. So, I would've charged $29mo for hosting and maintenece. (more for larger sites,, maybe $49mo? Sounds good to me) But, I pay $4 mo. so I asked for $10mo X 2 = $20 a month. And since I hit him up for more cash on a monthly basis, because I forgot, I threw in QR codes for each site.

What can I say,, I'm a giver. Over deliver, right?

He actually refered me to his designer and he gave up the info I needed (or I said I would choke it outta him,,, hahaha,, kidding, he was helpful)
It was super easy to redirect the site. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Coding is soooooooooooo simple,, you know,, like quantum physics and talking with Stephen Hawking.

The X-man (or Rockstar)

p.s. did I mention the guy was so stoked, he said he would mention me to all his business buddies. Word of mouth advertising can't be beat!

Congrats on your success man!

Getting that first sale is an amazing feeling.

May I ask which product that inspired you for your promotion methods?

Good luck,

At first I started with gmail. But, I consulted with a "big wig" friend at a worldwide company and he explained all about email marketing on a global level. So,, I did the 1st mail blast with the big "G". But now, I'm gonna do extensive tracking with iContact. My buddy explained that it's easier to CALL leads when you know they have opened your email, and knowing they clicked your link is even better. Then you can easily call, or have a little more confidence. (iContact $14mo for 500 contacts and 3000 emails)enough to get a great start. and cheap to add more 1000 contacts: $19mo

Let see:
Domain: $10 You may find cheaper
Register w/city: $42 You should to get a bank account
Phone #: $9 Not a must
Website: $97 You can get cheaper, I'm just lazy
Localizer Software: $97 Or do it manually for free
Mobile Marketing XT: $397. But there are many others than this.
that are much cheaper. try WillR's, Quentin's, Niel's, and so many more. See whats right for you. I buy everything so, I'm not the smartest at being low budget. You can refine this down to almost nothing. (almost) Like I said,, i'm lazy and look for thing that are "done for you".

Originally Posted by Sean Erickson View Post

I started with gmail. I did about 100 emails but learned that tracking can be super important for other types of marketing,, such as calling. When you know someone has viewed your message, then you know, at the very least, they have some idea of what you're about if you call. Not totally cold calling. Now I'm using iContact

Well, all of the products and courses that I have gone through talk about email marketing. I'm lazy (ok, not really) but I wanted to have a simple way to do this biz. And email is it. So, if you haven't seen "Localizer Lead Tool" you need to. It provides leads by the truck load. (in 20 seconds) You choose a niche, choose a city anywhere in the world, and it gets you all the info about all the companies in that niche, in that city. (names, phone numbers, websites, emails) It's AWESOME!!!

Re: How I made $1200 this past weekend selling mobile sites

Let me just add I just made a good mistake. I'm sending emails as we speak here in San Diego, Wednesday, 10am. I'm doing an email to real estate agents and I sent a blast out to 16 agents. I got a response back immediately. She said i have a great hook because she saw the subject line: "I can't view your company website on my phone!" and she immediately went to their site.

But , she wrote and said, "Sorry to say, but I checked our site and it works fine on mobile" (oops) But,, she said also, "That is a great hook. I will keep you in my database if we need any of your services."

So,, I guess the subject line works well. The software said they weren't mobile. It does have a fault rate of I think of a few percent. But even though it was wrong, it could very well lead to something in the future.

Off to the next.

Congratulations Robert, that's exciting!!!

As for the realtor response below - it could be that her site is not mobile optimized
and she thought you meant you can't see the site at all, anyway, that's what crossed
my mind when I read it so it may be worth to go and double check... if she kept you
for future reference, the future may come faster than imagined

Rock on...

I hope it wasn't a Nudist Beach

Thanks for the great Post, I was just wondering if you think the Mobile Marketing XT Program is eazy to use and do you think this system is worth the cost?

I have looked into the Lime Cellular system, however; someone mentioned in a previous post that it was a copy of Lime Cellular, so I contacted the company and asked about the cost of the program, unfortunately; they would not allow me to purchase just the mobile web design element - I would have had to purchase the white label package which (for me) is a very high cost...

Any thoughts?

dean.

That's awesome Robert,

Who did you get your phone number through...that's a great price.

I would also love to know, did you write your own emails or did you find a template...I always find emails difficult to write.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on some mobile marketing myself and love your success story.

Regards
Adrian

Mobile Marketing XT Is super easy to use when building sites. It's drag, drop, and edit. I'm into easy so I paid the stiff price but it was well worth it. Fast and easy, great combo. And they also offer free QR codes, an sms platform at a low price, seo, and others. "I like it a lot" (said like Jim Carrey)
And like I said above,, I like things all packaged together and this is,, it has all you need for mobile.

The second ph # I got from AT&T. It was only $9 to add a second line,, and as many more as needed at $9 bucks. (I had an account already)

Yes, I wrote my own emails. One thing I did do for about 30 of them was to take a pic of their site on an emulator "mobilizer" and sent them an image of their site on a mobile phone along with a mobilized site. (not theirs tho, just an example) Quentin gave me that tip for the simulator/emulator(?) Thanks Quentin. No templates buddy,, sorry. Just follow your heart:p

If you build it, they will come........... but it's work people! My biggest tip of all,, bigger than anything else,, IT'S THE BIGGEST TIP YOU WILL EVER GET,,,,, EVER!!!!!
Maybe in the next post,,,

Robert -

Double-check the realtor's website on Iphonetester.com or use mobilizer. See what it looks like and if you can either make a mobile site or improve hers. She is on your hook, since she called YOU - go for other services if her "mobile site" is sound.

Also - order professional biz cards from Vistaprint to hand to live clients!

Congrats!

@robert - its good to see someone actually taking action! good luck to you!

not sure if you have considered it or not but you may want to look at upselling other mobile related services, ie QR code tracking, sms, even printed materials too ie business cards, flyers. posters, brochures...

PS i would not go anywhere near vistraprint if your looking for quality... look for 16pt card thickness - if your going to resell see if you can get a trade account with 4over.com

hope that helps

And the emails took about 10 minutes. I only email out 25 at a time, And I use Bcc. ( I read up on spamming)
I'm not too familiar w/the can-spam act but I thought it was against the law to mass mail unless the recipients opted into a list.

Robert,

Would you mind sharing a general outline of what your emails to potential customers would say? I do SMS marketing in the Boston area and tend to use mobile sites as an upsell. Though there are many businesses in the area without mobile sites. Anything you could share would be most appreciated.

I'm looking into localizer right now and it looks good.

Thanx!

Very good info!! Keep moving on your success!!

I use a few mobile platforms as well, good to have variation for those who are picky and want to stand out better.

Where is the link to "Mobile Marketing XT"? Can't find them anywhere?? Curious - even though they are Lime? The SMS service has me intrigued as I do not offer that.

Robert, good things happen when you take action - and you certainly did. Thanks for sharing your success story and action steps. I've had a lot of success with traditional affiliate marketing, but am just recently getting into the mobile space. I dig the simple and effective model you outlined here. I've purchased a couple of courses, have a lot of learning to do, but hope to add some additional "mobile" revenue streams to my monthly total sometime soon.

Congrats again and hope to hear about more sales soon!

The iContact website explains the issue of spam and their take on things pretty thoroughly Anti Spam Policy - iContact

While I give Robert kudos for taking action and think if you're sending out emails yourself and adhering to the CAN-SPAM requirements I don't think you'll have any problems with that, but since iContact requires subscribers to opt-in, they're not going to be any help to you here.

Most ESPs that I'm aware of require some form of opt-in and also don't allow you to import lists of your own etc...but if you look hard enough I'm sure you'll find a few that will let you do what you want.

Cheers,

Steve

Yup. I do use Mobilizer. Love it. And, I got 500 cards from Vista Print. Maybe I got too prepared (?)

Thanks. That's another BIG TIP I have. Do It! I was thinking I wasn't ready but I MADE myself "just do it!" I just jumped in head first. I already wanna change my biz cards to lil cell phones. Anyone know where to get some? .... Oh,, and I am going to upsell,, I just don't wanna shove it all down clients throats all at once. A kind of drip feed of all other services

I'm experimenting with iContact and Yesware. Yesware is a google chrome email tracker that's free. Just download Chrome and find it in the store.
iContact: 500 contacts with 3000 emails. $14.99... I figure I can upgrade to more as business increases.

But there's still that one HUGE tip I have.......

Thanks,

Robert X

Here's what I have gathered. My emails have an opt out in them and I use a friendly, non threatening approach. I offer to help,,, I don't sell. You're gonna have problems if you try to jam a sales pitch down someones throat. It's a "personal" email, not a business email. iContact has a complaint counter and I have none. In fact, most have been happy to respond, even if they are saying no. And, I'm not MASS emailing. Literally, a few at a time.

I just had another potential client email me. He's on the fence, so, I made a mock up in like 10 minutes. He said he'd call me Monday. (it's Thursday) See, it's that easy. If you can't "sell" them,, "buy" them. Give them what they want at a little expense to you,, your time. I bought him with a little of my time and a mock up so he could see what he would get.

Some people need to SEE to understand,,,, I'm one of them

Rob X

Oh,, and that GIGANTIC TIP I have is,,,,,,,, wait for it,,,,,,, Turn off the t.v.
That's it. Try it. I made so much more progress by turning off the stupid idiot box.

It's thewarriorsyndicate1.com.. but it's not ready yet. I will be setting up some videos this weekend (I hope). I will even do a "cribs" episode so you can see who I really am. I have often wondered how some of these guys live on here so I will show you how I roll.... like a Rockstar!!!

Originally Posted by pagemoney View Post

If I get what you're saying, I create a website based on their existing site. I just try to copy it and make it look as close to their main site as possible. I also do a quick mock up with 4-5 buttons and their logo to send to people to show them their site as a mobile version. Do this,, it takes 5 minutes and biz owners drool over a mobile site that looks good and looks like a small version of their main site.

Oh yeah,,,, Booyah!!!

Haha nice work - I love the enthusiasm. Playing the Internet marketing game is exciting when are winning, huh??

Sorry for the elementary questions...but why would you also host the mobile site? You mentioned that you quoted a bail bonds company $557 + hosting. Why hosting?

Wouldn't you just send them the web files?

If you are just making a mobile version of the domain, wouldn't that mean they are hosting it?

Thanks. Well,, the program I use is self hosting. If you use them, you host with them, for now. They say that you will be able to host anywhere soon.

Also, I wouldn't just want to be a "one time deal" kind of guy. I offer the hosting with maintenance. I explain it to the clients that they must host with me. No problem so far. But I'm sure I'll run into that so, I am flexible and have several platforms to offer. I'm set up to do it any way I choose,, or should I say, set up to give the customer anything they want.

I just like the idea of hanging on to control of the sites. It gives you leverage.
In this business you may want to have a recurring monthly income. You get rich off recurring income. Not one time sales. Don't get me wrong though,, I will always give the customer what they want, not what I want.

Booyah! Robert X

Rob, I'm just a curious guy from asia. I want to sell mobile websites, I've sold 1 but that was 3 months ago and did not happened anymore. I scrape for potential clients and emailed them as well. They are interested but after knowing the price of 297$, they will not reply. Actually would you mind sharing your subject lines, just the subject lines you've used when blasting email?

Sold most of my mobile sites through walk-ins and direct mail, never considered this approach before, I guess I just swept it under the bus but I will definitely start something like this soon! Thanks!

You should get WillR's "My Mobile Business". He's got a super cool "free" way to look up businesses and get in contact with them. His whole course is great and so is his products,,, I use several.

I must say though,, you've just gotta keep going. It's a numbers game. The more you contact, the more chances you have to make a sale. Don't get discouraged by "No's". Stay focused and don't give up. Do you think businesses keep running by not doing anything? No. You must be seeking the next client every day, non stop. And as many as you can contact by whatever way you choose.

I went out to eat last night and came across the restaurants to go menu's and biz card from the owner. As I ate,, I checked out the site and it was not mobile optimized. So,, I got his email and I'm a customer, so, there's my way in. I can start with,,, "Hey, I was at your restaurant the other night looking at your website as I ate, and I couldn't view your site on my phone."

I will create a mock up and send it to him. Lets see what happens. I will also note that he has all this advertising but nothing for people using their mobile phones,, which is how most will try to view his site when they see the fliers and biz cards while eating there.

p.s. Businesses don't run themselves. You must set it in motion, and keep it in motion.
