Hi

Does anyone know of any good plug ins that will turn wordpress sites into mobile sites.

Also what other possibilities are there to get my wordpress content onto mobile devices.

Thank you

Bert

Might want to keep an eye on this, it's still in development:

Responsive Plugin Converting WordPress Themes into Responsive Themes

Keep in mind, this is a plugin that aims to make an existing WP site responsive. I'm of the opinion that in many cases, a separate mobile-specific website is the preferred route to go -- most of my clients are local restaurants and retail, so having more condensed content and strong, clear calls to action are what deliver results. Simply having their desktop sites' content be responsive and mobile-friendly, wouldn't produce the same type of results. Hope that makes sense.

      Nice businesses you have there!

Looks like your audience is B2B, and in that case I'd say responsive makes sense. Again, if you're working with local businesses to help them reach local consumers, a B2C approach, more often than not a standalone mobile website will produce optimal results.

Well, I like the look and feel of the Responsive themes, but like you pointed out DanteHicks, I don't know if it would have a great draw for most Local Businesses.

To this end I went searching...
I have all of the Mobile Web Pro series, and I'm learning alot. I did want the option of the 'rounded square' buttons, so just last week I invested in the EZ Moblie Generator, and it's also a nice package.

And - I got to give *air* to WarriorBen for his great *free* mobile template and instruction... it got me interested in making the further investments.

The WHOLE goal of the search - "Click To Call / Tap To Call" buttons!

All three of the packages will handle the "Click To Call / Tap To Call" function well. I notice that the Responsive Themes will allow a phone number to be touched to call but I wanted it to also be available as an easy to press while driving button.

I did NOT pickup Quinten or WillR's packages simply because they seemed to duplicate the other packages. I was on the edge of purchasing both of them, and who knows, with more free time to experiment the modest investments would make sense to round out skills.

All have their own methods of redirection, but the MDD (Mobile Device Detect) seems to offer more options.

The WPTouch plugin did put my blog into a readable format, but there was no "Click To Call / Tap To Call" ability... and after a few "mobile plugins" I abandoned the thought of the WP Plug in.

This is where the EZ Mobile Generator comes in - It is an entirely WP based Mobile Site Creation tool that will allow you to build a bunch of sites and either export them to HTML, or continue to run them from the "Host" WordPress installation using the plugin. The creator of the EZ Mobile Generator gave me the impression that the exported HTML system will perform much faster than the WordPress installation as a Host solution would.

The cool part about the EZ Mobile Generator is that you can host it, create sites, and then simply Update And Export when changes are needed - thinking coupons - on a regular basis.

Those are the options that I have currently found.

        Hope that helps you out,
        Patrick

A lot of designers/developers are going with responsive themes because its an easy solution to address mobile - but whilst responsive maybe mobile ready, responsive is far from being mobile optimized - there is a huge difference in the end user experience.

If offering the best mobile experience isn't a high priority then go with responsive approach for all your visitors else look at using responsive for desktop and tablet visitors and then use an adaptive approach similar to what happens with WPTouch or a standalone mobile site where your solution renders less bloated code and images sized and optimized specifically for mobile phones.

A mobile optimized approach will also optimize the content too - mobile visitors typically want much more condensed information, that's quick and easy to access as opposed to the content provided to desktop viewers - if they want more than serve up the responsive theme.

@OP - If you want more information feel free to PM me.
