ATT Wireless Family Plan? Wait

Hey warriors,

This thread might be a little off topic, so moderators feel free to move this thread. But man I just wanted to put this out there for those of you looking to get a family plan, wireless phones, from ATT. This stuff probably holds true for the other carriers, but my recent experience is with ATT.

I just got a rude awakening on wireless service 101.

OK, so I bought 3 phones for me, wife and son. Well I should say my wife did all the negotiating and I just paid the bill. LOL.

Anyway, so I get my first bill, and the list of fees and charges made me laugh out loud. If anyone is familiar with this, then you'll understand.

So here come the fees, activation fees for each phone, $40, then on top of that are the surcharges and more junk fees, like city, state, tax, regulatory, recovery, etc..the list is to big to post here.

And essentially what your plan consists of are:
  • Minutes- talking
  • Data
  • Text
  • Messaging
Each one of those is an hour lesson in itself to explain. But after talking to the ATT rep and finding out all the details of this stuff, we had a good laugh. I mean there is no way that the sales people explain all this stuff to you when you buy.

But if you have a smart phone, we all do, then if you're at home and don't switch over to wi-fi on your cell, well your apps keep running, like facebook apps etc, and they continue to pull data and charge you.

So fb updates to your phone are costing money. I found this out when my wife was at like 1 gig of data usage in 2 weeks already. Her plan was at 20 megs. Ha way over. So I switched to the 6 gig plan for data (there is no unlimited plan) and then switch to unlimited on everything else. Huge difference in money.

Same goes with messaging, like sending pictures. This is different from texting. And our plan was charging like $.20 per text, both incoming and outgoing.

My wife's phone was also at $103 in texting charges in 2 weeks alone, sheesh. If I hadn't called to change plans, this would have been a 2 thousand dollar bill to pay.

So just wanted to give a heads up to those looking to purchase a new wireless. If you use a ton of data, and texts etc, then just get the unlimited plan and you will save so much more.

Peace

Tired of the grind? Wait. PM me to see a better way.
