Hello, I'm interested in selling mobile sites to YP clients... Does anyone know if Yellow Page business owners have access to their websites... in other words will I or the biz owner be able to easily gain access to their regular website in order to install the mobile redirect script? ... For I doubt that YP would be very cooperative. Thanks, CO |

Haven't attempted this myself, although I think most YP sites look horrible and even more so on mobile. If you could give them a compelling reason to jump ship and let you redesign their desktop and mobile site they may be willing to, even though they're probably locked in to YP for a certain period of time. Probably all comes down to whether or not they own their domain name or are just leasing it from YP and how tied in to that they are. |

I will say this, I sold advertising in the western US for many years and hands down, the platform that produced the worst ROI (highest cost, lowest proof of return) was Yellow Pages. When the shift from print to digital began to pick up speed, the YP companies started to offer SEO and SEM services, as well as the landing pages you mentioned. But, still true to their previous bloated inefficient model, YP charges a hefty premium for subpar work and results. Problem is, their sales forces are relentless cold calling machines and since it's a numbers game, they net a lot of unassuming customers. And typically their contracts are ridiculously binding, often charging customers a "short rate" for early contract termination. In many cases you might make a note of when that client's contract expires, and visit with them next about 30 days prior to that time to plan next steps after YP. Hope that didn't get too off-topic, but I feel like shedding a little light on that industry might help you understand what you're up against. | |

I tried to prospect YP clients. Unsuccessfully. They don't care how horrible their sites look. Just waste of time and effort.

Just like any lead list I guess,, Allot more dialing though. Kinda quizzically asking whoever answers the phone about who"s the decision maker. My simulators online, I just ask for a few minutes ask a couple of good leading questions. This last fella started off with no time to talk and a half hour later through a merchant processing walk through. We are all basically good people and don't really want to be sold ~~~BUUUT all want to be the first on the block with the shiny new gizmo.. Riiight?

The people who advertise in the yellow pages are a different crowd altogether. You are much better going after those who already have their own web presence or are doing some type of online advertising or social media. At least these people already understand the value of an online presence. |

A better strategy would be to target local business who are listed on google but dont have a site themselves just a link to plus.google Example: bricklayers The downside is these have most likely been contacted by other sellers as well. You need a USP. |
