Is it possible to have a noise, sound, music, voiceover etc played when someone clicks on a menu option via a mobile phone, eg so the phone speaks the number and/or brand name when 'click to call' is pressed etc

Surely it is possible, but how well it will work on most mobile devices is the main issue. I haven't created any sites/applications with such a feature yet but here are some links that may help you get started: Playing Sounds in HTML How to Play a Sound on Click or on MouseOver Cut & Paste HTML5 Mouseover/ Click sound effect |

Like Nail said - sure it's possible - but other than the site owner thinking this is "cool", I can't see this impressing your mobile visitors any. Chances are it'll be taking up more of their mobile bandwidth and make for a worse mobile experience than if you didn't have sounds playing on button presses. Just my opinion though and if you do get something working and test it out on your prospects, let us know what they think of things! |

Plus nothing worse then a sound when you weren't expecting it.

I agree with this. You need to think about the typical mobile user. They might be sitting on a bus, a train, walking down the street. The last thing they want is an unexpected noise coming from your website. If it does, they are likely to quickly click away and never return. Not to mention the additional load it adds to a mobile site which we are trying to keep as small as possible so they load as fast as possible. If you are going to slow down a mobile website for one reason or another, I think there are a lot of other things you could do before this that would be a lot more useful. I don't see it adding any value for the extra load it will put on the site. |

yeh cheers guys, was a spark of an idea, it could be useful in some instances but as you say the use of bandwidth could be prohibitive
