Has anyone tried this to get clients?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I'm experimenting with selling mobile websites to local businesses. Here's what I'm doing...
  1. Get my outsourcer to find all the dentists in my area
  2. Go through each website, one by one, take a screenshot of what their website looks like on a smartphone. Usually it looks like shit. If they already have a mobile-friendly site, skip.
  3. Create a mobile-friendly website for them quickly using DudaMobile. Take a screenshot.
  4. Email them with a message that goes something like... "I stumbled upon your website on my mobile phone and it looked like this [current screenshot]... nowadays its important to have a mobile-friendly website... your site COULD look like this [screenshot of mobile version of their site]... if you want me to help you set it up, call me or email me"
In theory, this should work pretty well because I'm getting their attention by showing them a problem with their website. But who knows how much spam these guys get.

Anyone have (tested) tips on how to increase responses, including how I should word the email? I'm thinking calling ahead of time and letting them know I'm want to send them an email would help.

Thanks!

Contacting them via their web forms and also their Facebook pages can often give better results than just cold emailing them.

Hi WillR

I just dug up a couple of your mobile WSO's from my hard drive and was thinking about getting back with the program. I have all the marketing stuff prepared - website, flyers etc. I even have your prospecting video (the one with the ice cream cones at the start) on Youtube. I actually did a lot of cold emailing but, as you have indicated here the results were not great.

Marketing via Facebook sounds great but I thought that contacting page owners with a marketing message (even an innocent offer to help) was a big no-no. Could you elaborate more on what you feel is an acceptable message to send?

Hi Tony

I realized after I posted earlier that I sorta hijacked your thread with my query of WillR. Sorry about that.

To your question and, in part, WillR's response, I've attempted a lot of emailing following the advice (and email copy) of several WSO's. What I repeatedly found was that the response never lived up to the WSO claims. If I got 1 response in 100 I was doing well. I was getting more like 3 or 4 in 1000. And these were from emails addresses I had collected with great care. Further, not all responses represented good potential.

There is a new product called Main Street Control which came out recently. I bought the main product (about $10 a couple of days ago) but not the OTO (about $70). They teach a way to locate websites that have flash installed and then email the prospect with a "blank" view of their site on an iPhone simulator. They also have a sample email script, although it really is quite brief (maybe good, maybe not). The OTO is a product that puts the email together with all the customer info so it is personalized. I didn't buy this so I can't comment on how good it is.

I just read another thread on this forum where a guy prepares a flyer and goes out on a Sunday and slides the flyer, face up, under the front door of the business. He claims to get a very good response. It might be worth a thought.

Hey Tony
The process you are following is pretty good, since you are not getting enough response and you are not sure that your mails are reaching to your leads, follow "Can Spam" guidelines while composing your mail, you will get more responses.

I'm using a similar method, but instead of just sending an email with screen shots, I'm sending along a link to a 1-2 minute video I made for each business. I know you didn't go very deep into your email copy but remember you need to hit each prospects "pain button." And then show how a mobile site will resolve their "pain."

Use the Google keyword tool to show them how many people are searching for their services via a mobile device. Then you can go on to educate them that a mobile site can help them rank higher etc... This is helpful article if you're not familiar with it yet: Mobile-friendly sites turn visitors into customers - Google Mobile Ads Blog

Hope that helps.

I think you covered the basics there, but the one thing I don't see you doing is communicating the BENEFITS of a mobile website to your prospects.

"Your website looks bad on mobile and could look better" might get some prospects attention, but something like "You may be losing business to your competitors with mobile websites - how much money are you losing buy not having a mobile friendly website?"

Just a wild guess here, but the lifetime value of a new client to a dentist is probably many thousands of dollars, and if a mobile website can bring them just one new client - that could pay for a new mobile website and hosting for the next 5 - 10 years!

Why not just pick up the phone and call them?

Honestly just call me. A lot of people contact me this way and I actually view it as worse then email spam.

Aka you were literally on my site and had my phone number in front of you yet it was easier just email via out contact us form?

The same goes for customers. Those that call are way more likely to buy. Those who email in using a form have the lowest conversion rates. In fact many of them won't even answer to our phone calls or reply to our emails and we are merely trying to contact them back on their web form request for more info on an RV.

Email is easy. You are not committing to anything. Picking up the phone means you are committed. This is true both when selling and buying. Rather your prospects know this consciously (sales companies will) or not doesn't matter as they likely know it unconsciously.

So commit to selling and pick up that phone. You will stand out of the crowd.
