Over 50% of U.S. consumers want a tablet this holiday season

A Vuclip survey of over 20,000 people brought in an eyebrow-raising result – over half of the people surveyed will buy a tablet by Christmas Day. Of that 57%, almost half of the women and more than half of the men stated that they will keep said tablet for themselves. So much for the giving spirit this holiday season!

While the sample size of this survey may not accurately extrapolate to the entire United States population, the results are certainly nothing to brush off. With the current crop of tablets growing with the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD, iPad Mini, and 10-inch tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Nexus 10, it does not come as much of a surprise that people are warming up to the idea of having one.

The survey allowed for a basis on brand, availability of 3G/4G/WiMax, operating system, or price. The importance of the brand name understandably topped this list, with Apple winning 30 percent of the vote and Samsung not too far behind with 22 percent. Amazon was decidedly quite far behind with only 3 percent of the vote.

Of features, 19 percent want a tablet with 3G/4G/WiMax capability and operating system was important to 12 percent. Perhaps somewhat surprising is that only 10 percent of the vote went to price as an important factor.

Luckily, the tablet market is gearing up to be quite competitive this holiday season, and consumers have a plethora of great devices to choose from – see our links for the best coverage on various Android offerings, and tell us if you’re planning on getting a tablet too (and which one)!

tablet craze, i think they are overrated. watch, pretty soon they'll add a finger track pad to make browsing a tablet more efficent!!! brilliant!!! of course they've already added keyboards, and why not a mouse? how bout an hdmi? of course then you need some sort of stand so you can view your tablet while using your keyboard in your lap. You end up with a less than crappy laptop. haha.

i'm getting a galaxy note2 phablet this week, and then replace my laptop in the next yr or two with one of the improved convertible laptops/tablet ultrabooks coming out. best of all worlds.

my tablet is good for toilet reading and an alarm clock by my bed, oh and lookin up lyrics for drunkaoke in the man cave.

And that is why I built "Coach Nerd Video Lessons for Android" recently launched on Clickbank.

Not a good news, I prefer that it is mobile devices :-) so we can sell more mobile sites.
I m typing from my tablet and really hate it.
Don't like the feel of a glass keyboard hiding half of my screen. Don't like the auto typing stuff, don't like to zoom every time I browse. Don't like how I have to hold my tablet with 2 hands and type with my thumbs. Can't do any serious work with it. And more.....

So the hype by Apple and others following is what makes consumers want to have a tablet for Christmas.

I did jump in the hype that's why I've got a tablet but if I knew how it works, I won't buy one. If I could sell I would sell it but unfortunately who will buy a 6 month old tablet when every 2 months a new one comes out?

A desktop Pc or laptop or a slim laptop is best for all.

I'd rather go for a Tablet PC since these allow me to do almost anything I want and they look exactly as the average tablet but with 5 or 10 times more the capacity.
