It's a slow education process of consumers. What would really help is if phone makers or possibly app developers would imbed or enable your mobile phone camera to automatically recognize barcodes/QR codes when you take a picture of them. NFC/RFID technology will make it even easier, just hold your phone near a promotional tag to automatically sign up/get offer. Eliminating the step of the consumer having to download some app, embedding the capabilities in the phones will have a dramatic impact and really light this mobile area on fire. Now is the time to position yourself with clients for the future. Why retailers aren't leveraging their shelf price/barcode tags is beyond me. A customer could scan the barcode already on the shelf tag or an additional QR code that could be printed, and get various reviews on the product such as their own site reviews, amazon reviews, consumer reports, etc..., and perhaps a demo video from manufacturer, etc(what a great way to charge vendors to upload and host a video to promote their products in-store)... How much more would a store sell? A ton, with little investment such as paying me 10-20k a month or more |

| “Interestingly, all of the most liked items are from content that is made for mobile, and none that were PC formatted. This shows again that people appreciate getting content on their mobile device that is relevant and easy to use.” Back this up with some hard data to customers to show the value of having mobile optimized sites. "The numbers also suggest QR codes are shaping up to be a good way for marketers to deliver rebate offers, with the single best QR code marketing campaign powered by the ScanLife system on Black Friday delivering a promotional rebate offer for a popular DVD title." A real interesting nugget. Instead of giving an automatic on the spot discount, give a rebate. The importance of this is significant. An instant discount disappears. A rebate incentivizes the customer to opt in and give you their contact information, including mailing address. Obviously hugely important for businesses/retailers to build a list, when other ways like asking you for your information at the checkout is resisted. Additionally it gives you an additional contact w/ the customer when you mail them a tangible check after the sale, creating goodwill. You kind of benefit both ways, customer likes the "discount" at time of purchase, then receives a "gift" from you in the mail in form of their own rebated cash. haha. What a great time to upsell, sell them accessories for their purchase, sell them something else, when you are mailing them a check! Today's companies usually outsource rebate checks to firms that just do that, mail a check. You can barely tell what/who the check is from, they are passing up a huge opportunity to sell somebody something when mailing them a check. I digress |
