Well, here goes. I've been interested in MM since I first learned about it last fall. I've studied, bought software, too many WSOs; some better than others, lol. I've tried to get something going with it, but fear always knocks me down. I don't know why. If you haven't seen it yet, you should watch the movie "We Bought a Zoo." I'm not going to get into the premise, but one theme that runs throughout is courage. 20 seconds of courage to be exact. All you need is 20 seconds of courage. I sat and looked at the phone, set it down and walked away several times. Then I reminded myself, 20 seconds - just 20 seconds. I made the call, set the appointment, and went. Long story longer, something amazing happened. I landed a client. My first client. My son's school to be exact. They want to launch a text message program to more effectively communicate with the families of students. Then came the real fun - we've partnered on a mobile marketing fundraising program (similar to one mentioned on these walls - thank you for the inspiration!) So, I started out terrified to pick up the phone, and ended up being told that my ideas were "innovative" and being called a "rock star." Don't give up, believe that if you're doing something for the right reasons, it will work out. I have A LOT of work ahead of me, and I'm excited to be on this path now. I know other warriors are like me, afraid to fail, afraid to succeed, who knows - afraid to take action. But taking action is key - stop planning, stop dreaming about it, stop wondering, and find out! |

Hi twalker2623, Inspirational read. I find I am a chronic procrastinator so reading such things is quite timely. All the best with your endeavours! Cheers |

Wow! I watched that movie but it never occurred to me to apply it. Got me thinking now. I guess I'll take that 20-second challenge too. Thanks for this post. |

Companies cannot afford to ignore the benefits of mobile marketing. Nowadays, marketing campaigns for mobile devices should be part of any marketers’ planned activity. Once you get started with a good mobile marketing plan, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an easier, less expensive, and more profitable way to immediately capture the attention of new and potential customers anywhere at any time.

Congrats! I think if you're just getting started that working with someone you know or have some connection to, like your sons school in this case, is always a great idea - and because sms can be so inexpensive, you can easily let them sample the service first and try it out to see what they think. I haven't heard of using mobile marketing for fundraising before though - can you share a link to some additional info if that's something you've seen here before? Thanks! |

Thanks for your replies everybody! Steve, check out this thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/mobile-m...marketing.html Read through it - MoBuzz talks about using SMS to promote businesses, he has kids from a local football program promote the program to get subscribers and splits the profits with them. I'm doing something similar with my son's school. We're putting the finishing touches on the program now, everyone is so excited about it. His school has been SO supportive of the program, they have blown me away. I actually wish I wasn't so hesitant to talk with them about it, because I have had the idea for months now, and I never imagined that I would get the reaction I did when I approached them about it. I was in a meeting with the principal and she kept calling other people into the conference room to hear what I was saying. It was surreal to put my idea out there and have people say WOW. THEN to hear someone else talk about how amazing your idea is and tell you how and why they love it. Incredible. As for the SMS program that his school signed up for, it never really occurred to me to try to sell it to them - I was in a PTO meeting and someone else brought it up as a way to communicate with parents and families, and everyone loved the idea, and I said "Hey, I can do that!!" Seriously, think outside the box, trust your gut, and get out there. (This is advice I am still trying to apply everyday). |

@twalker2623 Congratulations! Keep going and never look back. May I suggest wait for a while in order to get the program successfully of the ground. Offer a "partnership" with the school where they will receive either a one time referral fee or a small percentage of the revenue. I did this with a very large church here in Atlanta and it worked extremely well. They openly promoted on their website, on their newsletter, etc. I have earned a good amount of business from this.
Okay all jokes aside the major challenge is getting the business owner to understand that mobile is really important to the success of his/her business. I don't want this to come across the wrong way. There are a lot of people trying to sell mobile and they are doing it wrong. As a result, I have seen a new type of "challenge" and it is going behind a someone who did not properly present the "benefits" of mobile. Instead they focused on the techie stuff. Most businesses don't care about all of that. They want to see an increase in revenue and even more specifically they want to see an increase in profits.

Great job Twalker, there's a huge use case to be made for SMS mass texting and internal communication for organizations and schools.

I charged them a setup fee that covered their first 3000 credits. We're also implementing a fundraiser by partnering with local businesses. The businesses will pay to advertise to our list, etc. See thread by MoBuzz, seriously. I'm going to split the profits of the program with the school 50/50, and I'll use the money from the program to pay for the SMS program after their initial 3000 credits are used. They were hoping it would be under $1000 a year for an SMS program, that is a stretch, so I pitched the fundraiser idea at the same time, and included text message credits for them to use as well, paid for by the program. Cheers everyone!

Well said. My motto... "Stop learning and start earning!" Many of us (me included) get so caught up in the learning process we never get around to putting stuff into action. But all of that knowledge means nothing and is worthless until implemented. So go on, take action. I dare you! |

Most of us got stuck reading about mobile marketing trends but not everybody decided to start using it. Mobile marketing is growing rapidly and you can gain from developing a mobile website or a mobile app earlier than your competitors. That will increase ROI and bring more customers' satisfaction. Here are some examples of the good mobile apps for business https://itunes.apple.com/app/id485133676?mt=8 , https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/my-s...512913298?mt=8 , https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/amaz...491297003?mt=8 |
