i'm building my own sms list on the side (only a couple so far) so that i can demonstrate the effectiveness of it to potential customers, i was wondering how many peeps i should get on there before i know i could prove some results if i sent out a text for a potential restaurant or other business. what would you say is usually the 'critical mass' of a list before one could see results? 100 people? ~also, what could one reasonably expect the response rate to be (assuming a decent offer), like 2-5%? was curious what people have seen in their experience... finally , i was wondering how people track redemptions? (like if the customer just shows the text on their phone, does the restaurant need to keep a manual tally?) i know some providers offer redemption codes/couponing/scanable options , but assuming you weren't using that type of a platform...is there a better way to do it? thanks! |

You would be quite surprised how quickly you can build an SMS list with a properly thought out mobile marketing campaign. | |

I think you were asking about building your own list correct? If so I would say a minimum of 500 subscribers with 1000-1500 being ideal. Your response rates are going to vary depending on what type of business the deal is for. For example the response rate for pizza will always be higher than for say a Carpet Cleaner. Always push for the strongest possible offer and do not settle for less. With a strong offer in the restaurant niche you should expect 6-12% average response.

There's no real minimum. Some businesses will have much smaller client bases than others, just because of the type of business they are. The best size email list is the one that has ALL of your customers on it. Obviously it's rare that you will have everyone on your list so you should always be trying to get your list bigger.
