Hi guys,
I'm quite new to mobile marketing and I've been trying to get more info on SMS marketing and read quite a lot of interesting ideas and posts on the topic.
I just wondered if anyone could indicate a good provider with positives/negatives in the UK? And what costs are involved in providing SMS services for local businesses interested in messaging to a list?

I looked into this a while ago in the UK and the best value I found was from this company Bulk SMS Mobile Marketing By Text Marketer ® (I have no affiliation with this company other than it is my personal choice after extensive research)

They are the most competitive on price and the service I have had is excellent.

To answer the question on Bulk sending in the UK, yes it is allowed on a permission basis many businesses and public services already use sms services for appointment reminders.

Thanks Kevin, I've checked out your offer before, it really is a fantastic business in a box, however as I'm just starting out with low capital I think that'll be something I look to in future as I have more clients.

Becoming very popular nowadays, just look at O2. I get bombarded everyday by them! Definately a great way to target your audience.

As a rule of thumb you want to be paying between 3.5p-5p per SMS.

I'm including 5p at the high end because I know some businesses who've paid a higher amount and been happy for it (better support, better features like contact management etc.)

SMS marketing will an absolutely fantastic channel for your clients if done right - but do proceed with a bit of caution to make sure you're on the right side of the anti-spam laws.

Your safest bet is to make sure the client agrees that all contacts they ask you to send an SMS to have opted in to receive communication and that you're just sending messages on their behalf etc.

Thanks everyone for your contributions. I've come across another UK company which also has a mailchimp integration called textmarketer.co.uk and they seem to be quite cheap - 3.7p at the most expensive but they have a great offer of double credits on at the moment. The only problem is they only offer a reseller/partner program but no white label program, which is a shame, but they are quite cheap and you could perhaps run the account on your customer's behalf? I don't know if that works.
I guess you only know by trying and learning by other people's experiences.
