I have bought and/or used several diffferent user agent redirect scripts. Most do not consider iPads or tablets "mobile" for the purpose of redirection, but one does. I just bought an iPad4 and tested several of the top sites on the Internet (as per Alexa rating) to see which ones redirected on the iPad and discovered the following: Sites tested: Google, Facebook, Youtube, Amazon, Wikipedia, Amazon, ebay, and Twitter ALL of these sites redirected on my iPhone. Only Twitter did on my iPad. In other words only Twitter thinks that iPad users should be redirected to a mobile site. Personally I do not think you need to view a mobile version on a full-size iPad. On a mini - not sure. I was wondering what other people think/do re iPads/tablets. Do you think tablet users should be served a mobile site? Thanks, Susan |

It really depends on the site, I think. Some will work fine as a desktop site on the tablet, others might benefit from using the mobile site instead. You'll find a lot of the more popular sites these days will actually have 3 versions of their site. One for desktop, one for mobile, and one for tablets. The important thing to remember is to always include a desktop link on your mobile site so if the tablet users decide they prefer the desktop site on their tablet, they can access it nice and easily. You will never please everyone so the best thing to do is just make sure the option is there for those who want it. |

Thanks Will, I always do put a link back to the main site on the bottom, and you are right - it depends on the site. I was hoping there was some accepted practice regarding tablets - but there doesn't seem to be. Do you mind me asking how you treat tablets, or does it depend on the site? Thanks, Susan |

We have found that the majority of people want their regular sites displayed on tablets so we leave this feature turned off by default but can easily be toggled on if needed.

I think it's a must for a Mobile/Smartphone version of any website, but pads have a great advertising potential.

I agree, that in most cases, desktop sites usually work pretty well on tablets. However, if you want to redirect tablet users, the code below should work for most tablets. HTML Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- if (screen.width <= 1024) { document.location = "http://tablet.yoursite.com"; } //--> </script> |

We consider the optimal set up on Wordpress to be a responsive design for desktop/tablets and a mobile optimized (adaptive) theme for mobile phones. Am not just saying that because we have just recently finished developing an adaptive mobile theme for wordpress but its just makes more sense - have been harping on about adaptive for the longest time. Hope that helps! jay

You should have it in accordance with the gadgets that you have .. For iPad, Desktop and Tablet that support the software with the hardware in order to avoid hangs. |

| The screen.width <= 1024 worked well for me. My concern was what if someone is using a resolution that is low on their desktop but this worked perfect . Thanks |

It works fine for any devices under 1024 pixels. The issue is a lot of desktop PC's still have a screen width of 1024 pixels which means they will also be redirected to the mobile site even though they shouldn't be.

This is true. It depends on the website as some websites are compatible with mobiles and tablets while other redirects to the mobile version of the website.

The best is to have two seperate versions of mobile websites : one that will fit the smartphone screen size and the other one that will fit the tablet screen size. The plugin I have created do exactly this...Just look at my signature...You will not be disapointed |
