I have a client whow wants a desktop website rebuilt along with a new mobile website. I know this is a bit off topic are there any easy templates people know of for producing desktop websites for businesses easily? I don't have any previous experience in doing this. |

WordPress could be a good option for you. Or, you could outsource the web design work to someone here in the forum. Check the Classifieds section, you'll find good talent at reasonable prices. Best of luck. |

The latest version of Artisteer is a very good for point and click design. It now includes mobile without you needing to code it. Admittedly, it isn't as good on the mobile side as coding a specific mobile solution but I have used it many times and don't have any complaints from clients. Artisteer - web design software and joomla template maker (you can try it for free, though it does put a watermark on the files). |

I'd go with wordpress too, you can get some great business themes and it's easy to have a blog on a wordpress site as well as a professonal looking business site.

Since you don't have much experience, another option is outsourcing it to someone in somewhere like the Philippines. Great designers there for very cheap. I remember awhile back when I first started, a client asked for features that I had no clue how to do so I saved myself a lot of headache and time (good for the client as well) and just outsourced the job. You can learn along the way and ask the freelancer all the questions you want. I think you should really take into consideration that it might not be fair to your client to charge him a fee for a desktop site since it will be your first one ever. Give him a quality site and you'll reap the rewards in the future. You might make less because of the bigger expense but at least the site will come off looking professionally done. Or maybe you're really talented and I'm just wrong |

Of course, without knowing more about the client and their goals it's tough to say... but for a typical local business looking to revamp their desktop and add a mobile presence, responsive would be the first thing I'd present. | |

I don't know about the plugin part, but you could certainly do 2 WordPress installs - one for the main site or business site, and another in a sub-folder, named blog for instance, to run an actual blog.

Wordpress is going to be your simplest solution. Go and search Google for the website 'Theme Forest'. They have a huge selection of professional and affordable Wordpress themes to suit all types of businesses. |
