When I access my site from the search engines on a mobile or a tablet it takes 5 to 7 seconds before the page loads, but once you reach the site, moving from one page to another is not too bad. Its the initial load time that is really cumbersome. And knowing that visitors are usually quite impatient, I reckon some will have left before getting to the site. Site loads pretty fast on a desktop or laptop. |

hello Go for a mobile website or mobile apps which will help you indulged with much more loyal customers; because as you said users are really impatient, so go for such websites or applications which are meant or built for the mobile screens. |

That's what I am looking for. The site is on Wordpress. However, I don't want to lose ad revenue from users on mobile devices. Mobile and tablet users now account for around 25% of the site's adsense earnings.

You may want to look at that as well as the size of your images to help speed up the load times.

Anton, Yes, if 25% of your ad revenue is already coming from mobile devices, that will only increase this year and next. So you want to definitely speed up the mobile user experience and also give them a better browsing experience. It really depends what type of website you have and how much content is on it. For a local business type website I would recommend creating a totally unique and separate mobile optimized site. That way you will have a super fast loading site for the mobile users. If you are using a big blog or content heavy site then having a separate mobile version won't always make sense. You may want to look at implementing a responsive design that will automatically change it's layout for mobile users. The problem with this second solution is that it's not likely to speed up the site for your mobile users since it is in essence the same site loading just with different styling. If you are using Wordpress the first thing I would do is try and limit the plugins you are using. You really shouldn't have more than about 4-5 plugins at any one time. I see some people using 10+ plugins on their sites and it's just overkill and really slows down the site. Go through your plugins and unless they are vital to the site, deactivate them. I would also recommend implementing a cache plugin if you don't already have one. |

Thanks for the advice. I have actually switched over to a responsive theme in the last month, and like you say, I really don't see the point in having a different design alltogether for mobile since its a blog site. I actually prefer users essentially viewing the site as they would on a traditional computer. I do actually have around 15 plugins in operation. These plugins are supposedly not too load-intensive and, frankly, I see them as a must for my blog. I have deleted all non-active plugins. However, I think I can do something in the way of resizing images. Currently the images basically appear as thumbnails (size 150px by 150px) which appear on the left side of the posts alongside the top of the content. I do have the odd image here and there inside content as well but not many. I have also noticed that sometimes the navigation at the top of part of the theme loads slowly. This is part of the of the theme itself. |
