Who is making the money in mobile apps?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Can anyone tell me who is making the money with mobile apps?

Is there an actually affiliate space in mobile apps?

Are the developers of these apps the one's who are making the money?

How are apps being promoted through affiliates?

What is the major differences with ITunes and Google Play?

I understand there are mobile campaign networks but are there mobile affiliate networks?

Why cant i figure out why or how I can promote mobile apps as an affiliate?

I see the Itunes affiliate program and the commissions are very low. 4 to 5% doesn't seem like much.

Can someone please shed some light on these questions? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
JJ

Its better to develop for iOS first and then for android, but I have not tried affiliates

Depends if you're talking apps that run on mobiles OR apps designed for mobility such as mobile websites or other location based applications that don't run specifically on a mobile.

If its for mobile apps (that run on mobiles) then the biggest money makers are the app markets themselves such as Apples App Market or Googles Play (there are other markets and Amazon now has one) and then next in line are the app companies that design and market apps.

You're either producing a lot of smaller apps with the occassional mid tier launch or you're a big app company producing high end big launch apps.

This page shows just how big 3 well know apps actually got in terms of revenue (sales) and profit. Its significant.

Very nice app.

I can see it was downloaded more than 10k times in the last 30 days (google play). And you use "adsense mobile", is this correct?

I'm starting building some apps for android. Can you put some number out? What your monthly earnings with adsense for this app? Don't need to be specific. Just throw $xx or $xxx or $xxxx .

Hey Vincenzo! Thanks for the Pillar Apps shoutout - much appreciated.

Now, going back to the original question:

I think that you should treat an app almost like a website. There are several ways to monetize your apps...almost to many to list here.

Mobile apps are in demand right now for businesses and have a high perceived value in the marketplace. What does this mean? You can help grow their business and earn upwards of $2k per app. Obviously this will vary between niches and scope of the app.

If you want to strictly monetize through online methods, yes there are Admob and associated networks but it'll be tough to see a massive cash flow from that. Instead, you can have one of your tabs in the app as an opt in for the a "vip club" or "special report" and build a big list that way. Or you can use push notifications to send your app traffic to a CPA or affiliate offer.

I could keep going, but you get the point. Have a great weekend!

Re: Who is making the money in mobile apps?

I offer some of my apps using a CPS affiliate model. It's not a good fit for most marketers, however. My CPA model is *much* more popular for most affiliates.

With almost 20,000,000 mobile installs of my apps, I can tell you that the world of app-makers who have figured out how to profitably monetize at scale is rather small (relative to the universe of overall app developers). Platforms, distribution, and tooling are probably a bit more stable from a business standpoint, if less lucrative when you hit it big (think selling shovels to miners instead of mining).

Also, as already mentioned, purpose-built or custom app development can provide a good income, since it's very chic at the moment. Also difficult to scale, but can be an excellent income strategy.

Your question, though, is way too broad. There are people making money at all levels of mobile. And, like most business ecosystems, there are people losing money at all levels of mobile. And the vast majority just kind of muddle along, neither making it big nor failing miserably.

Ask a better question and you'll probably get much better (and more actionable) responses.

Can anyone tell me who is making the money with mobile apps?
Ans: The app developers and also the app owners or those who purchase apps from the developers, both make money through apps.

Is there an actually affiliate space in mobile apps?
Yes there is affiliate spac e in mobile apps.

Are the developers of these apps the one's who are making the money?
Ans: The developers make money when their apps are being sold, however if you want to make money from apps without developing, then all you need to do is go for a good apps store, and get your apps done and then through those apps, you can earn good revenue on a daily basis by advertisements under them.

How are apps being promoted through affiliates?
Ans: This is the wor of the apps promoting networks. All you need to do is pay them for their promotional effects. Typically, app promotion networks will charge their services on a cost per install (CPI) or cost per download (CPD) basis.

What is the major differences with ITunes and Google Play?
Ans:

I understand there are mobile campaign networks but are there mobile affiliate networks?

Why cant i figure out why or how I can promote mobile apps as an affiliate?
Ans: Yes there are mobile affiliate network, and this started with Offermobi which was the first mobile affiliate network. MobFox, Mobpartner, KissMyads etcd are some other mobile affiliate networks.

Making money with mobile apps If you want to build a business developing mobile apps, recognize a target audience first, and then make products for it.

In General both the application development company/individual developers and the company/individual who is the owner of that particular application are making money through mobile applications.

The developers are offcourse making money but the most money is being made by the marketplace (that is the company who manufactures the phone).

Mobile Apps Arbitrage v2 - has anyone else gone here?
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi all,

Seems to me that the scammers have been making quite a bit of money, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience :

I've been wondering what has happened to Carson and the whole MAA bit. Seems that he has scammed a few people, hence why he was banned (?).

Anyway, has anyone investigated his new v2.0 apps biz? I've had a look at it and it seemed to be a simple process...until something came up the other day. Here's how I interpret MobileRathi.com, so if anyone else can add to it, please do so.

You go onto MR and create your app in a very simple method that looks quite easy to do. The videos are very descriptive and illustrate how to do so quite easily. But this is where things get a little bit suspicious.

As part of the process, you hit the "publish" button, and then the app YOU have created gets saved for "approval" by MobileRathi.com before being published to Google Play Store (or wherever).

Hang on here! What give MR the right to approve what YOU have written ??? Is it not Google's decision as to whether YOUR app gets published ? He emphasises that a free app can be monetised by inserting AdMob (from Google too, no?).

Is it me, or does it seem easy for someone else's links to be inserted into your app as part of the "approval" process, or is this just part of a new scam?

If anyone can help me out here, it would be very much appreciated!

Diver Doug

PS

Surprisingly, the support desk at MobileRathi.com has been quite good with other questions about v2, but my last question involved my above point, so it will be interesting to read their reply. They still don't want to tell me what the "subscription rates" to MRC actually are....something smells a bit fishy

PPS

Normally, the helpdesk would get right back to me in less than 12 hours, but since I asked them the question about why they need to "approve" the app that I've made, they are a bit silent. Ok, it looks like the scam has revealed itself!

Therefore, I'm asking/pleading/begging for anyone here to give me a bit of guidance on how I would start making (and hopefully selling) a few simple mobile apps. If anyone can give me an idea, it woudl be greatly appreciated (no scammers either ! )

Anyone who says its better to develop for iOS than android is frankly out of their minds. Why would you want to reach a 200 million device market over a 700+ million device market. Though I don't think you'll make money if you go into the mobile market with an "affiliate" mindset. I make several thousand a month with my Android apps solely through ads. Though if your going to code games I would highly suggest in app purchases and offer "do offers for free in game stuff". I don't remember any of those companies as I just use AdMob and Leadbolt primarily.

I make money each month with my own Android apps. You can search 'Chris Wakefield' on the Android Play market and you will see them all. They are not clever apps but, as I have quite a few, they make me good money each month.

Some are charged and so make money from sales, others are free and contain Google Mobile ads. The ads are places on a free version of a weight loss app which, given the time of year, is doing very well for me at the moment.

All my apps bring me a residual income each month, and they were created about 1.5 years ago now!

If you want to get started making your own Android apps, you can either learn to programme in Java natively, or learn Flash, which is much more visual. I learned ActionScript for Flash in order to make my apps. Flash has an Android compiler built in now which is handy.

Its a huge question and it kind of like asking who is making money with SEO because there are just so many ways to make money with SEO and the same applies with Mobile Apps.

The two main approaches are Niche Apps where you are building almost the app equivalent of a niche website or an autoblog. Monetization strategies also share parallels with the niche sites and autoblog sites.

Then there is building and selling apps for local businesses. This is very lucrative right now and will be for some time to come. However its not for everyone especially if you prefer the "work from home in underwear" lifestyle rather than going out and meeting people. Oops no that should be working on a golden sand beach with a surfboard and an iPad.

In short practically any and every strategy that worked for the traditional desktop internet, will work or can be adapted for mobile apps. And there are some that just didn't exist before.

Better yet, even though the mobile internet and app usage numbers are staggering, most businesses have yet to make the transition!

PS. I'm biased. I believe so much in the mobile app opportunity I took out a white label on a top app builder. You might want to checkout this WSO over here.

I just launched my first app in the Google Play store but it's only been a couple of days, so no money yet. I went with a more traditional affiliate model in this app, but the next one will use a different strategy to monetize.

I play on releasing several other apps each using a different strategy and then determining which method worked the best, moving forward from there and refining that method further.

I hope at least one method works! It's hard to find sites where people are talking about monetizing apps like they do websites, for example

Thanks Dani16 and Wakey7 for showing off your apps. I'd love to see more examples of apps people have successfully monetized.

Its very hard to make money with apps, per say; its a more long-term strategy, for brand and customer retention than customer lead generation.

Unless that is your making the app to be part of a startup business with investors, or part of a team as part of some kind for "startup weekend" or you are doing it yourself via Kickstarter or something.

I would concentrate more on the content side of things, do small things, get stuff out there and then work on apps as more of side projects.

Of course this all depends on the scope, size of the app and your team

We're making money selling apps to small businesses, we don't have 1,000,000 downloads but we sell our apps for a decent buck and the smb market is still virtually untapped in my opinion...however it is sales in the smb niche, so if sales isn't your thing then the smb market might not be for you

I've made 8 iPhone apps that have brought in about $60K over the past few years.

It's a much different game making apps today than it was a few years ago though. Back then, you could release apps without any marketing and make money. Nowadays you have to do a lot more work on the marketing side.

Then again, there are a lot more tools to make money today (and a lot bigger mobile audience), so if you know what you're doing, you can still make a crap load of money.
