Cpanel info from mobile website clients - Are they receptive?
Share on:

Will clients be receptive of the idea of giving you his Cpanel info for you to install the mobile website files and insert a redirect. This seems to be deal breaker for me... Is there any non intrusive way of doing this other than the clients doing it themselves?

FTP login should be enough for you to install the mobile site and any redirects. Clients will give FTP details more easily compared to giving cPanel details. Do not ask for cPanel login details unless you really need it.

If they don't even want to give their FTP details, then don't do business with them.

I have encountered more issues/problems with clients insisting they create their own sub-domains, than any part of the selling/installation process.

I try to provide them with step-by-step written directions, but basically this only covers clients with the usual c-panel. Hosts such as GoDaddy and Earthlink are entirely different. I remember one client whose website was hosted by Earthlink, as being my worse nightmare ever.

It's up to the client if they want to install it themselves or let you do it.

If a client doesn't want me to install something, great, I'll hand over the files to them and a short text instructions on how to install.

In a lot of cases those same clients are back the next day asking you to install it for them.

One thing worth pointing out to your client is that they can change the password on their cPanel right after you have installed things, if that's what they are worried about. Also tell them you will back any files up before editing them so they have the piece of mind that you won't screw up their current website.

I've just sold a site using Will & Nail's Minute Mobile Mockup, one of the JumpMobi themes. I have used Will's service agreement from his My Mobile Business, thanking you very much Will, which outlines all that is needed and access CPanel is one.

They have their own hosting and didn't want maintenance but are happy for me to do the updates or changes as they need them, for a fee of course. So what concerned me more was keeping the files for the site so that I could access them in the future.

Now with their CPanel I only need access to set up the m. subdomain and install Wordpress, I keep the login and password for that and I won't need any more.

I can set up the JumpMobi files on my generic site and then transfer the files to the WP install I've set up.

I hope my thinking is right???

BTW Will, the service agreement from your My Mobile Business is really good, I adapted a couple of things to suit my situation :-) so thanks very much

Cheers
Carmel
