Where To Start

I run a small kids fashion brand. I think I should try and get an app store for my brand. Please can you give me some tips on where to start.

What is your goal?
If it's customer retention, apps are great.
If your interested in getting more customers
a mobile site with an sms/coupon offer might be better for attracting new customers.

Do you have a web site? It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. It could be a really good idea to have an app but at the same time you can benefit from having a mobile site for your marketing campaigns.
I think a combination of your web site, mobile site and an app won't do you any harm. To get customers use website and your mobile site, to make them regular - introduce your app.

I can hook you up with an Mobile Friendly eCommerce Website if you want.
This way everyone who visits your website from a phone will see your mobile friendly website. No matter if they have Android, iPhone ... etc
Easy to browse through your stock, easy thumb clickable buttons, no zoom or hard to navigate pages, separate description for each product and easy to buy straight from their phones, without installing anything.Plain and simple

With the app, there will be some people who won't install the app on their phones just to see your stock and every other info.So you might lose some clients.
Imagine every local business having an mobile app!! What that would mean?
That I, as a potential client, will have to install each and every local business app I want to use, on my phone? ... that's not going to happen from my opinion. Not interested to have tens of mobile apps on my phone ... I would rather prefer to browse your mobile friendly website and decide from there to buy or not.Just like I would do it from an PC as everyone is used to.

Just let me know if you are interested and I'll tell you more details.

Good luck with your business,
Adrian
