the opening rate for" Are you...."is pretty high i think the less detailed the better. i use a generic subject line then the follow up message is more tailored. if you are anyone's list, i'd go back to those and see which ones you opened and create something off that. also headlines from launch products could work. |

Putting their domain name in the subject line is straight away going to make it look like spam, so forget doing that. I never open emails that have my email address or domain name inside the subject line because they are almost always junk emails. Think of the types of emails that business owner is receiving on a daily basis and what sort of email subject lines they simply couldn't ignore. How could they ignore something like... I was at your restaurant last night... I'm not saying to use that exact subject line as part of the Can Spam Act dictates that your subject line must not deceive and must relate to the message inside, but that is the type of line you need to use. Something they can't ignore. This is exactly what spammers do as well. Use it to your advantage. |

Marketing is a funny thing like that and often what we respond to as marketers is very different to what the average person responds to... because they haven't been exposed to the sorts of things we have. So as always make sure you test things. Your market will dictate what works best for you. I'm just saying that when writing subject lines I always try and create something that people would find very hard to ignore. The same way newspapers use weird headlines to get you into the story. The subject line of an email is basically like the headline on a salespage. It has to reach out and slap them in the face and get them to read what follows. Be sure to let us know how you get on. | |
