What type of business do you own? Where are you getting your clients cell numbers to send them these texts? |

You can try Red Oxygen. It allows you to send mass messages to large lists in your phonebook. There are also other features like receiving SMS replies from your e-mail, reminders from your calendar sent directly to your phone, and etc. You can even send appointment reminders to your clients.

Well the first obvious question would be which country are you in since a lot of SMS operators are country dependent.

I've tried at least 4 different companies. What are you looking to use it for specifically?

Do you offer smpp or http? Is it one way or two way messaging? I see you offer Canadian, US, and international. Are these shortcodes or do you just act as a reseller? If you don't than this is pretty expense given shortcodes are involved, and assuming I want my own dedicated Shortcode god this can cost me an arm and a leg. Sorry for the over analyzation but please explain how you're able to offer international SMS via short code and opt in? Did you apply to the carriers all over the world or do you use twilio

Hey Kefka, Is there a reason you want short codes and not ling code numbers? I'm asking because I have a platform I can offer you, but it works with twilio and long code numbers. |

Thanks for the offer, but I am already using a company for my platform. I specifically want short codes and ideally 5 numbers because of the opt in rate. anything longer than that and the opt-in rate decreases. When you give a customer more to do you lose them. It's already difficult to get opt-ins.

A) They are currently doing ANY form of advertising or PAYING for advertising. If they are allocating any $$$ towards advertising it is my job to take a cut of that. If they don't do any advertising they are dead beats. B) They are active in their business and are competent with a computer. I used to add a "Are you looking for new customers" as a qualifier but I took it out since SMS doesn't really bring in new customers like SEO does so it's a harder sell. What I do say is I can bring in your regular customers a few more times a month.

To be honest there are no rules. I just found it looks nicer for marketing material when you use a 5 digit short code. All major marketing companies and major chain stores like Guess, Tommy Hilfiger, and even GOOGLE are using short codes that are 5 digits. Some of them haven't even been exposed to the market yet but since this is the business I am in I dig a little . As well if you think from a consumer perspective do they want to text to a professional 5 digit code, or some shady local number? I can see your business model revolves around the local number which makes me believe you're using HTTP or Twilio(I could be wrong). Good news for you though is I don't know which is better. I can only speak from experience. There are no studies. All I know is the opt-in rates I've gotten and the feedback received. My rule is make the process as simple as possible for the end user and the business. On a side note for Twilio, everyone talks how great they are but their pricing is skewed. There is no way I am paying $1 per subscriber. I don't care how low the text is. If you have 5 keywords with these guys, and some of your lists are 500, you're paying collectively $1000+. I prefer a flat rate for my usage. I want to pay for platform, keywords, and MT costs per use, not on subscriber. Can you imagine if you had 5000 opt ins? Instead of paying $400 a month flat you're paying $5000. It boggles my mind why people rave about Twilio. |

But, when you're dealing with small local business...all you need is a local number because 99% of your customers will recognize that number and have a connection. In my opinion and some stats I've tested...when you're dealing with local business and customers, the customers would rather optin for a local number instead of the short code. I believe it's a physiological thing. When they see the short code they think they're signing up for some sort of marketing list. But, when they see a local number they connect the number only with the local business...which it is. Plus, if done properly it's not some "shady local number" because that number should redirect to the main business number. So if someone has a question about the text, reserve a table, etc. the customer doesn't have to do any searching for the business number. They just call the number they got the text from. Yes, my platform integrates with Twilio. For twilio, you have the pricing all wrong. The cost for twilio is simple (This is for USA) - $1/month for the unique local phone number $.01 per incoming text $.01 per outgoing text $.01 per minute for incoming calls $.02 per minute for outbound calls It doesn't matter the size of your list(s). You're still paying the same amount. Hope that helps!

imsolutions, I think you are right: If i send sms msg to 15000 subscribers-what is my cost? Thanks I will look into this, however I need to look into having my own dedicated with them, and if the pricing sticks or changes because I have my own dedicated short code. |

Hye!! Sending sms can be of twp types one with a branded like you will send sms with your brand name instead of mobile number . This type of branded sms is done thru web based portals and cost bit expensive. As far as non branded sms is concerned you can use any software like smscaster.com get enterprise version. Need more help feel free to contact me. |

AH HA. I did my research, as everyone should. Those Twilio prices you gave, imsolutons, are for long code, the one no one wants. When I asked specifically about short codes that's where the pricing came in. It's $1000 per month. Currently I am paying $600 and it was a vanity short code. Glad I called. On a side note, not to bash long codes, but there is a clear reason they charge only a buck for it a month. If you have a marketing company that offers a diverse line of services, than maybe long code is a good way of dipping into Mobile Marketing without breaking your bank. With the companies I deal with from small business or large marketing companies to even corporations, I absolutely need a dedicated shortcode (not shared), there is no way around this. |

I think the best thing for you is to figure out what you want to do with an sms program, figure out who you're customers are etc...

The thread starter did not reply with a country? If you're looking for US providers, a simple search on Google will provide you with a handful of options.

Don't get me wrong, I do not have 100s of SMS clients, but I do have a few and got much better results for them with the long codes. If you decide to test it out, report back and let me/us know which got better results for your clients.

I need to send occasional mesaages to groups within my church? I joined Twilio but am now a little lost on how to text to a group without going back to school to learn programming? Anyone know of an app or plugin that works with Twilio whre I can accomplish this. I won't need to text more that 10 or so people at a time.
