For my 1000th post I have a tip and a gift for everyone. We all know about re-direct scripts that recognize a browser using a mobile device but, I made an interesting discovery today. I sent out about a dozen email to Taxi/Limo companies yesterday to introduce a Mobile Friendly Taxi site and more than half of them went to the site from their computers. (benefit of using a web monitoring program) I immediately realized the mobile view really doesn't look convincing from a computer so I decided to do a reverse code that recognizes when a visitor opens the page from a screen larger than 800px and forwards them to a simulator page. Check the site www.SunValleyTaxi.com now from your computer and watch what happens. View it from your smart phone and it opens in the mobile view. FREE Gift (The simulator plugin I use on the site) You can download it at http://yayame.com/simulator/mobilesimulatorplugin.zip You can download the tutorial at www.yayame.com/simulator/tutorial.pdf If you have any questions, let me know. Mo Thanks for everyone putting up with me over the years. I actually found my original welcome email with my password from Allen Says back in the 90's when this forum was a "secret site"...I used a different user name back then so it only shows my join date as 2005. |

Thanks for the gift Mo, very kind of you. Trouble is unless you add a piece of code that shrinks the display of the website in the simulator it doesn't display the prospects website like it does on a real samsung. If your prospect then checks on their smartphone after they have viewed it on your simulator they will see the difference too and although they will probably see that their website isn't mobile friendly it will more than likely confuse them. |

Actually the difference is slight. I've not come across a site that did not display different than on my G note2. Do you have any examples of it not loading the actual site? The sample on the page for the Taxi site opens like my mobile view and if you scroll down in the simulator, the Limo site link opens like it does on my smart phone also. I've checked it on sites like http://www.amadoc.com and http://www.itranglobal.com and they opened on my device the same as in the simulator with a slight variance in width. Do you have any ideas on code that could be inserted? I haven't found a simulator that was perfect yet. This one was the closest so far. Thanks for any further input. |

Thanks Tony, I opened the Americantaxi site on my Galaxy note 2 and it opened as shown in your picture however when I tapped it once, it enlarged to exactly what I see in the simulator so the simulator is probably opening non-mobile optimized sites in a larger view. I'm not going to worry about it, it seams to be doing the Job. Non optimized sites are opening and showing they need help. Thanks for your help. Mo |
