Hi guys.

I wanted to know if you know of any tool that allows you to fetch information of websites that are built using flash?

We know flash does not display well on smartphones, so a mobile site would be an easier sell to these businesses.

thanks

Not sure if anything exists out of the box but you may be able to custom code a solution. 100% flash sites are a dying breed! Even with a tool you may have trouble finding large numbers of 100% flash sites.

  • Yea, I know there was a program sort of like Mobile Renegade that detected Flash sites. But to be quite honest with you... The ones you DO find out there... There's usually a dead business behind it that just forgot to take down their website.

Most businesses have already fixed this problem as Flash has never worked properly on mobile and you can only imagine the frustrations they must have gotten from their clientele.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but running a Google search for "keyword" and then "filetype:swf" will bring up sites which contain flash files.

Although, I hear that newer Android phones (I'm an iPhone user) come with Flash Player already installed, so as far as the business owner is concerned, only iPhone users can't properly view his or her site - which would still justify the expense of getting a mobile version.

Flash build sites often take more time to load other than the Non-Flash made sites.
You are right, on smart phones flash made sites does not works properly sometimes.

Flash can be loaded by javascript, thus you should execute the web page. For this option I'd suggest you tool like this: Selenium-IDE — Selenium Documentation

    Hope I help.

Keep in mind also that Android has now overtaken Apple as the most popular mobile device. So if you go along to a business owner and tell them their flash site does not work on mobile, they are more likely to check it on an Android device, see their flash site working fine, and think you are full of it.

So make sure if you do use this approach you specifically make it clear that it's only Apple devices that do not support flash.

  • A lot of Android devices still do not support Flash. Galaxy models for example have a terrible time ever loading Flash if at all. I know Google has fixed a lot of their glitches on their end in this matter, but Samsung has been kind of lagging behind.

Keep in mind, Flash games still load fine on these devices, its just when you get to a Flash enabled website, you will usually just get a little blue box where theres supposed to be content.

You can either search the source for ".swf" or simply right-click what you believe to be Flash content and see if a Flash context menu appears or using mozilla browser and disable the shockwave flash fom the addons. And see if theres an error msg.
