Android mainly but as Will said it depends on the app. If it can be made with a cross platform framework then why not publish for them all. Another thing to consider is how hard is it to install each OS's SDK. The Android SDK takes so long to install that you could grow a decent beard while waiting for it (even if you are a woman). I dont do iOS because I dont agree with Apples restriction on how apps are delivered, developed or made available. |

Android users and Windows Phone users are still at loggerheads. With the former party claiming that Android apps are the best in business and holds the largest share in the smartphone market (75 per cent as per reports), the latter says Windows Phone is the best bet for working professionals. Android has zillions of apps in Google Play and Windows Phone Marketplace has approximately 130000 downloadable apps (x times lesser than Android but most of the apps are effective). Users have varied reviews on these apps with some voicing their support for Android and some claiming that Windows Phone apps are the coolest. But, what view does a mobile application development service provider hold for these two platforms? 7 USPs of Android
USPs of Windows Phone

I struggle with the ios part due to the tyranny of Apple. I literally had an ios app REJECTED and the reason they gave was that one of my tabs had black text with a white background. That is considered basic functionality and Apple wants custom apps. What? It is ridiculous. Luck of the draw based on who is reviewing your app that day. The struggle is with my offline business clients. I offer Android apps for a decent price, but prefer to charge 4X - 5X more if they want an ios version due to the headache of dealing with Apple. If I charge what I think it is worth for ios apps, I end up pricing myself out of the market. Sure there is alot of crap in the Play store, but I believe in free enterprise and let the industry weed itself out rather than the tyranny of whether or not your apple reviewer is having a bad day. No experience with Blackberry or Windows phones yet. Of course unless a client comes back with some SERIOUS cash, I am not considering anything for the Blackberry, why learn a dying language? |

I have an iPhone and a Samsung phone. I hardly download anything on my Samsung phone because it often freezes. My iPhone on the other hand, works perfectly well. I am not being bias or anything because I find Android phones more affordable but with IOS apps with more downloads and revenues, I think it's better to make IOS apps.

While it seems as though BlackBerry is fading away, I wouldn't count them out just yet. With iOS you are slightly more restricted, but there are so many iPhone users that you just have to go with what Apple puts our there. Android would be my number one, so much freedom with app building and their devices support so many features that can be utilized that are unavailable on iPhone and BlackBerry. |

Android is open-source. The code for the Android OS is made available to the public essentially.

Forget about apps build a mobile template that will work with all browsers and all OS. We are just about finished building one that gives total control over all aspects of our site and works in all OS and mobile devices with much better results than an AP. Also screen sizes of Mobile phones are getting bigger and tablets are taking over a larger percentage of sales - to waste your time and money building aps - is just that - a waste of money. |

I see many people on here talking about mobile apps and use it interchangeably with mobile sites. Mobile apps and mobile sites are completely different. Mobile apps can work offline (when you don't have an internet connection) on the other hand mobile sites cannot. Mobile apps also run faster and have a different look and feel as compared to mobile sites. The trend lately has been to move towards mobile apps. So if you want to get into mobile apps the best choice is Android. The cost is $25 for a developer account as compared to $99 for IOS (Apple). Also, Android apps get approved easier than IOS. Windows and Blackberry are such a small percentage of the market I wouldn't even worry with them. |
