Best Strategy For Giving Away Free Mobile Sites??
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I know that the "quickest and easiest" way to get a new client is by giving things away for free. I know that probably sounds a little desperate, but at this point thats what its come down to.

I was just wondering what you all thought was the best strategy when it comes to giving away mobile sites to bring in clients. I was thinking of either giving the mobile site away as a "promotion" to new customers who sign up for SMS Marketing. Giving away a "basic" site and then upselling them to a "premium" one. Or giving the sites away in exchange for referrals. Anybody care to weigh in on the best way to go about this, or if I should do it at all??

I've come across a similar thread to this and what I commented was to provide a free basic site and an upsell for the premium version. This is a good idea to give them a view on what you have to offer them and what's more in-store for them once they get the paid version.

We have found that when you offer "free" anything, you attract deadbeats who do not want to upgrade - therefore wasting your time.

If you find a customer willing to pay even a small amount $99 you have a customer who will be prepared to pay for sms marketing, mobile SEO etc.

I would pretty sure you can advertise it in Craiglist.Especially in business/services section.
Just create some website and redirect from there.

I'm sure busineses out there would love this.

Well I don't recommend you to build free mobile websites to just about everyone who signs up for one. Unless you gonna build a free software, that creates simple mobile websites and then upsell them to a premium software, that creates more much professional business oriented ones. Or give them a free dummy-101-easy-guide on how to do them by themselves if they sign up to your list.

But if you gonna code them free mobile sites "by hand", I recommend you to do them on a case to case basis, so you make sure they are serious business owners and/or marketers to have the profile so a mobile website could really benefit them.

Cause in this case they're bound to recommend you to other business owners/marketers, and people who really need and would pay for a good service. Cause at the begining, it really is about building a client list. Then you'll be too damn busy to work for free for anyone. Besides most brick & mortar business owners don't really wanna bother to admin a website or market it and getting the technichal knowledge for it, so that brings other business opportunities.

And whatever you do, when dealing with potential customer, either online or face to face, don't look desperate, everybody hates a salesman, specially a blatant pushy one. You gotta market yourself first, make them like you and trust you, then sell them.

Kevin,

While this will work with big ticket clients such as your lawyers and dentists it will not work with much smaller pocketed mom and pop stores such as dog groomers. You have to have a variable for different business sectors. 1 price DOES NOT work for all!

Just my experience in cold calling and my 2 cents.

Dexter.

I built my first mobile website for free to a business I contacted via email. Believe me selling free is as difficult as selling paid (sometimes even more difficult). People are not waiting for us with open mouths to give them free mobile websites. We still need to justify the need for a mobile website.

Having said that, yes if you are having difficulty getting paid clients, it is a good idea to start with offering free mobile sites or any other services. That business I made the free website then referred me a paid client. This is how things mostly work in offline. You do something for someone, they recommend you to others and bring more business to your way. So, spending time on something free is not always wasted time.

Nail,

By the time you creating a mock up (around 30 minutes), I can have called 30 prospects and gotten 1 sale at $799. Which would you prefer?

Hi Just Jarius, just looking to set everything up for a Mobile Biz myself and I have been debating this issue myself. I think you do have to take it on a case by case basis. As well maybe if the business doesn't have a facebook fan page you could offer to make one for free instead of the mobile site, then follow up with them explaining that FB is just one component of a very complex online marketing solution which you can help them with! I am sure there are other things you could offer if they already have the FB page and standard website. Just be creative... If they will consider buying at full price, offer one month of SEO for Free. Don't know SEO (plenty of Warriors For Hire around here). The Key issue is getting them to understand why they need that Mobile site whether it be free or paid. If the business owner doesn't get it then it's very unlikely you will upsell him because he has placed no value on it. It's up to you to educate him and provide the solution!

Patience is bitter, but it's fruit is sweet!
