I wanted to share this link and idea that Dunkin Donuts is doing to build their mobile marketing list...because I think it's a great idea and we can all learn from it! I'm not sure how many markets they're doing this in, but in my market Philadelphia, Dunkin Donuts is giving away FREE medium hot or iced coffee every day after the Philadelphia Eagles win. See here - Saving with 6abc: Free coffee if the Eagles win | 6abc.com The catch/strategy: You must download the Dunkin Donuts app to receive the free medium coffee coupon. This is an awesome strategy because not only is this building their app database, but it's also generating a ton of buzz. I didn't hear about this from the news or Dunkin Donunts. I heard about this promotion from my facebook page where someone shared the link. And, it already has 33 likes on just my friends feed. Now, think about a local small business running a similar type of promotion. What amazing word-of-mouth this will generate for them! (Be there consultant for this and cash in!) How many co-workers do you think will come into work tomorrow bragging about how they got a free coffee? (Eagles won tonight) You don't just need a mobile app for a promotion like this. This can also easily be done with a SMS marketing campaign. You just need to create a specific keyword list for this promotion where your local audience can optin to the list. Then, you can just text them the coupon the following day. Advertise how to optin to the SMS list all over the place. Create flyers for in the store, post on social media, your website, etc. and watch the word-of-mouth the business will get. Who doesn't love FREE stuff!!! |

Hi imsolutionsgroup, I found your thread very interesting. What you were relaying reminds me of something I heard the other day. Apparently there is a sandwich shop in the D.C. area that is giving discounts to furloughed workers. They are also charging double for members of Congress. An interesting spin on getting loyal regular "non-Congress member" customers. In the case of Dunkin Donuts, they could still give this offer, but if you are a fan of the opposing team they will charge you double (I'm sure these fans will not admit this...especially if they need to pay double). Might help to garner the loyalty of Philadelphia Eagles fans to their local franchise. |

I like their strategy because it's interesting enough to be newsworthy =) Getting the local sports community involved was a nice touch

Very smart concept. I think this type of marketing strategy can be used by most types of local businesses (but especially food related ones). I was away from the forum for a bit and it is nice to see that I can still learn new strategies when I come back after a while. Thanks for the share. |

Great share! Always looking for new or different ways to market to consumers. Connecting with the fan base of a local sports team was very smart on Duncan's part, this concept could definitely be expanded upon... ![]() |

That strategy could work well in a lot of niches. Hair salons and restaurants would be two I work with that I see could benefit a lot from the strategy used by Dunkin Donuts.

I have been monitoring Dunkin Donuts marketing strategies for a couple of years now and they have been ahead of the curve for a while . I actually used them as a case study when promoting one of my products . Thanks for the insight. |

This strategy is good to use in any sports town, not just with Dunkin Donuts, but for businesses that either have an app, sms list, etc. Just think "free drink, Monday" or "free appetizer Monday," just for a win. It could be the start of a tradition and one that you, as an offline mobile marketer could manage.
