Hi guys I am looking to launch a local company in my town. I am going to build a subscription list, and then send out coupons to be used in local retailers. But I am stuck, I am not sure what to charge the retailers to send their coupons out to my subscription list. I am in the UK, if that helps at all. has anyone had any success with this? I have set up the website, and got my sms provider sorted with shortcodes etc. I just need to start building the list, and then get retailers on board to advertise their offers. Cheers |

It really depends on how large your list is. If your list is only 10K subscribers...you will have the ability to charge much more than if your list has 500 subscribers. In the post above it says "I am going to build a subscription list", which means your list is currently at 0 subscribers. You can't charge anything with 0 subscribers ![]() Don't get stuck on the price, that will be the easy part. Focus on getting your subscribers, that's going to be the hard part. Once you have the subscribers and ready to propose this initiative to local business owners, you will be able to determine the price based off of the results your clients see. |

If you go to business owners you don't know, with no list or only a list of a few, to me it seems a little desperate. That's just my opinion... But, I do think it would benefit you to start with someone you already know and be straight-forward with them. This will also allow you to find a price point to start, fix any issues you come across, etc. | |

I agree with the other comments...get subscribers first before you worry about what to charge. A good rule of thumb is just to charge 5-10X your cost. If you have 1000 subscribers and it costs you $10 to send, then charge $100. That's 10X profit and a good place to start at least. If you can make the ROI for the business owner to be off the charts, you'll never have a problem renting out that list, as long as the SMS offers are good. |
