Alternatively if you are using something like WordPress for example you can use a plugin to simply switch themes based also on the user agent so that mobile phone viewers see a more mobile optimized theme instead of the desktop theme. This is exactly the way our WordPress mobile theme works - but also goes on to deliver different HTML based on the type of phone too to make sure its the most compatible. If you need any pointers feel free to PM me. HTH Jay

You should try an place the redirection scripts into header files and see if it's triggered or install a mobile redirection plugin and see if it's working. I've encounter situations when the actual responsive theme was blocking/bypassing any redirection script I used, but usually doing a little research to see how the theme works, going through the theme's files and coding, can reveal a way to make it work. If you need any help, just let me know.I might be able to help you. |

Typically if a php user agent script is managing the redirect - since the cached files that are rendered are HTML the PHP function doesn't obviously get triggered. That's why it is good to have a plugin that offers a JavaScript alternative. So at least the JavaScript snippet itself can be cached also. Again the only downside to this though is JavaScript redirects function much slower than PHP based ones since the PHP version triggers before even a single line of code is rendered whereas the same is not true for JavaScript redirects. Sometimes you can't have your cake and eat it! LOL HTH Jay

ClearWater404 yes it is very possible. All you need to have is a 'mobile' version of your desktop responsive website. You just need to install a redirect link to your head tag (depending on the platform you use).

Responsive site means that your site works on all devices and all screen sizes. If it's really a responsive site then you shouldn't have to redirect it.

True to a degree. Not all responsive sites translate perfectly. A true mobile site will almost always be a better experience if its done right.

If a site doesn't adapt to all screen sizes it's not really a responsive site. There is actually a way to create a responsive site that works perfectly on all devices.
