Direct Mail With Restaurant Niche
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

I'm about to start my first direct mail campaign selling my mobile services. I would like some advice on what days to send, how long until I should follow up, etc.

So I will start from the beginning...

On Tuesday I did some research and made a list of 20 qualified business owners that could greatly benefit from my services. All prospects are in the restaurant niche. I collected the following information for each prospect.

Business Name
Business Address
Business Phone
Business Email
Business Owners Name
They have a website
They have a Facebook page
They have a OpenTable account
They don't have a mobile website

I made sure each business fits the requirements above. The reason I made sure they have a website, Facebook, and OpenTable is because they most likely understand the benefits of multiple marketing strategies. I think they would be more open to a new marketing method compared to a business who doesn't even have a website.

So on Thursday of this week I emailed all 20 of my prospects. This was a warm up email where I introduced myself and explained a bit about what I do. I got 0 responses. I didn't expect much out of this step because the simple fact that I cold emailing such a low amount. I did see that 19/20 emails were opened, and that's what I was hoping for. For someone to at least read it.

Now my next step is sending a piece of direct mail to the 20 businesses. Here is a link to the flyer I'll be mailing out.

ESMB Apps Flyer

I was wondering what day would be best to mail this out? Should I mail them out on Monday so it arrives on Wednesday, or Tuesday so it arrives on Thursday?

Once I have these mailed out, my next step is calling the businesses. Since I reached out to these businesses twice, it's not a complete cold call. I will have some good conversation starters.

I have a script that I've used in the past, and 9/10 if the business owner is there I can get past the gatekeeper. This thread is not about my script.

So... My question is, what would be the best day and time to follow up with these prospects?

If they received my direct mail on Wednesday, should do my follow up phone call on Wednesday?

If they received my direct mail on Thursday, should I follow up on Tuesday?

What are the best times to call a restaurant? Obviously I shouldn't call during lunch or dinner hours. My problem is that I don't exactly know what the rush hours are for a restaurant. Maybe someone with some experience can enlighten me?

I was thinking call them from 9am - 10am or 3pm - 4pm?

Thanks in advance Warriors!

A busy restaurant owner/manager
doesn't have time to read all of that.

Now if you told him a way to lower the cost of getting
diners in, and make an offer to see what a side by side comparison looks like,
you will increase your interest numbers.

It's about how to fix his problems.

Best,
Ewen

I agree... WAAAAY too much copy. Nothing stands out enough to entice the biz owner to give you a call. Fix a problem or Offer a incentive.

Your design is nice but nothing says WOW.

A business owner no matter what niche isn't interested on how his website is #1, or how it looks on a mobile. All they care about is money into their business and the main issue is getting customers into their restaurant, do that no matter how and you are their friend!

Your flyer took ages to load and I clicked off it before it was opened.

You're telling me a business owner doesn't have 30 seconds to read this flyer? That seems ridiculous.

I've listed 5 problems I can help solve in my flyer.

First of all, who said anything about their website being #1? Second, I'm promoting mobile applications - NOT mobile websites. Third, I've included facts in my flyer that state how a mobile app can bring more customers into their restaurant. Fourth, it's a 30mb PDF. Mine loads in about 7 seconds. Still on dial-up I take it?

I feel as if you guys didn't even read my post. Although it was nice of you to give me some constructive criticism, that is not why I posted this thread.

I asked 3 questions, and not a single one was answered.

It would be great if we could stay on topic. Thanks!

No use if it's NOT being read.

It's not that I don't know what I'm talking about.

I have Puma, 10 #1 retail brands and a whole lot of restaurants, cafes
and bars as repeat clients

You are now on your own with the attitude you've shown.

I wish you well.
