I've had my website for awhile (MySportBikeMods - LED Lighting for Sport Bikes - Home) and I think I need to create a mobile version for the website. How exactly does this work? If you are directed to my index page and are on a mobile device are you automatically transferred to the mobile version of the website? How important is this for rankings as well? |

To answer your question...Half of all searches are coming from phones. How many times have you fined tuned your website so it looks good for customers. Time for a major change. We tell 500 business owners a month, with a snicker on our faces, to simply keep us in mind when it gets to the point that they are forced to be mobile. No need to rush. It is only money, that's all. Good conversion rate |

Critical! Even if you only get around 10% or 20% of your traffic from mobile, if you are losing that traffic to a bad experience on mobile, the loss is significant. Nothing infuriates me more than when a big brand (i.e. EA) has a horrible mobile experience. While customers may put up with this from a brand they have to use as a result of some other service (i.e. EA makes video games and ties those games to features online), people often will just leave the website of a business they are not forced to interact with if the mobile experience is bad.

The direct way the mobile site works is with code that is put onto the head area of your site. That code tells search engines that a mobile version of your site exists and redirects the mobile device to that version. There is a search directory for mobile with Google and other large search engines to which you will want to submit your mobile version. With that is the SEO actions needed to support your mobile version for it to rank well. The plus for you is that if you are one of the first to have a mobile site for your keywords, then your mobile site will be offered ahead of other non mobile sites in the mobile searches. This is with little or no backlinking. But as competition moves onto mobile, then you will need to add in backlinking to keep your position. There are three sources I will recommend for you to upgrade your site with mobile from here on WF: KevinZ, WillR, and of course me. I use both the platforms of KevinZ and WillR to effectively market and manage mobile sites for clients. |

Very important. But the above poster is wrong. Half of incoming searches are not from mobile, it's more likely around 20-30% of searches come from mobile

My friends. In the two fields that we market to, 50% is what we see. Overall for the whole web? Like 25%

Stop talking rubbish guys. All the cliches about the WORLD mobile trends.. Now listen. The devices don't visit the websites themselves. PEOPLE use these devices and each website has it's own target audience. Know what are their habits first when it comes to browsing. You should first check what is the percentage of traffic that comes from mobile devices to your website - Google Analytics is the best thing for this. Drop me a line if need more insturctions. After you know that lets say 25% of people come to your website from mobile devices - then you can make sensible business investment into the mobile version and expect a payoff. BUT if the traffic from mobile devices is only 1% - what's the point spending money on nothing? Good luck, Karl |

Its Important. Not sure what platform you are using for your website ( custom or wordpress or other ) but you have many options. For wordpress you can buy themes that that are called responsive. Make sure you get a theme that is responsive. All that means is it will trigger a scaled down mobile optimized version of your desktop website when a user is using his or her mobile device. Personally I opted to create a custom version of my website ( very different from my desktop version ) that looks and acts more like a app ( this will cost you but is well worth the investment ). In your market, bike riders almost always have their cell phones with them so if you have done your homework, and proper SEO, then when someone searches for LED lighting for bikes .... hopefully your site ranks in the first 5 listed.... and you have a mobile version ! Ask yourself this...... If your were out on your bike, & loaded a mobile version of your website, how would you want the info ( description, photos, reviews, call to action ) displayed in order to best generate a sale ? Not easy is it ? One thing you don't want is allot of page loading to go on. People on mobile don't have patience for loading and re-loading. That is why a simple one or two page custom site done properly might be key in your situation. Good Luck ! |

| tolson yes if you have a mobile version of the site, you can install a redirection script to your desktop site backend to enable the browser to detect what type of device is used. Hope that helps!

There are demographic and geographic issues at play here, but it's certainly safe to say that a growing number of people are only accessing the web from their mobile devices.

creating a mobile version of your site depending on the software used should be fairly easy so why not go ahead and invest the time to do that to be sure you aren't missing out on mobile users by making the experience better for you viewers/customers?

If you can't see the mobile revolution like every other huge companies that are paying millions to attract mobile users you are just close minded! Bill Gates, Steve Jobs ring a bell! They invested billions through their companies into the mobile revolution!

New sites that are build should be made mobile friendly. Older websites which the business owner is happy with will have to stay. Nobody is going to dump the website they have had for years and rebuild an entire new site, they are just going to spend a few hundred bucks on a dedicated mobile site.

Making a RESPONSIVE website should have worked for you better. Maintaining two websites - one for desktop and one for mobile is always gonna consume resources and time. A responsive website fits fine across all devices. |

Some mobile browser makes a non-mobile website viewable so I don't think its necessary to have a mobile version site.
