I posted this in the main forum section, but it didn't get any replies. Maybe this is a better place for it. I have a client looking for a both a Droid and an iPhone app for his pizza shop. I'm sitting down to discuss it more next week, but I believe he mostly wants it for online purchases and to establish a bit more credibility. It seems like the online purchases part would be a huge pain. I have outsourced a few app designs before for my own projects, but nothing for a client. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about pricing this? (I know price of the app will vary wildly based on the specs, but I'm looking for a ballpark figure to start with) I'm still brainstorming how to get this done and if its feasible and worth both our time/money. I'm looking to see if there are some templates online I can start from. Getting orders through an app seems like it can be an issue. Like I said, still sorting this out so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

WillR has a great WSO....I think it's called "Restaurant Lead Displays". In this WSO are some Flyers that would be Perfect for Pizzerias. (See Sample below) You stick this Flyer near the Order Counter. It has a picture of a guy wearing a Cook's Hat and the words; "SAVE AN INSTANT 10% OFF YOUR ORDER! Scan the Code below!" By Scanning the QR Code you can grab the customer's Email and set up a SMS program to "Bring Em Back!" When you tell the Pizza Guy that Little ol' you has a way to Capture the emails of his customers and....whenever he wants, he can FILL his place with Paying Customers (by sending Special Offers to the List)....he will go "bananas"! One other thing you can do with QR Codes is to modify the flyer for Hungry Tourists staying at local Hotels/Motels....adding the words; "PIZZA Delivered to Your Room! Scan here!" And put the Flyer in a Plastic Slant Back Display on the front desk (so Guests are sure to see it when they check in) These are Tourists and an APP won't work because Tourists/Travelers will be leaving town and the APP will be useless to them. A QR Code can bring up a Pizza Mobile Site on their phones so....all they have to do is, look at the Menu, make their choice and hot the "Tap To Call" button! You can put a Display in every hotel/motel in your area. NOTE: Hotels/Motels LOVE this because; 1) The Displays are FREE to them 2) You are providing their Guests with a "Service" and makes them appear "more professional" and "concerned about the comfort of their guests"! NOTE 2: You could set up a "Mobile Dining Directory" to include more restaurants. Restaurants would LOVE to grab the attention of "Hungry Tourists/Travelers" looking for places to eat. Don Alm |

You asked about "pricing"; I set up my "Mobile Displays" (with QR Codes) on the front counter of 5 motels and charged the pizza guy $50/week for 13 weeks .....= $650 Then....when I found my program was bringing in 50 pizzas a week ($18ea) I adjusted my fee to $100/week for 13 wks ($1,300 every 13 wks) And.....I also learned that, for selling Pizzas, you do NOT try to get pizza orders from fancy hotels. Nope, the 2nd grade and even "low-grade" motels will get the most orders. Don Alm |

I'd focus on what does he want the app to do. And what benefits he'd get from the app. and his budget. if you quantified the annual benefits (increased sales/profits) to generate a big number, you'll be able to charge more/he'll be willing to pay more. |

I would look at how much each app order would be worth to him. For my mobile marketing business I would charge anywhere from 3-5k for an app like this. Depending on how nice the pizza place is, location etc etc.

Online ordering sounds great in theory, but it can be a pain for the end user. Seems odd that someone scroll through an entire menu on their phone screen to order each individual item, "add to cart" etc. then deal with putting credit card info in, etc. instead of just hitting the click to call button to contact the restaurant to order by phone. A dedicated app would probably require users to create accounts with their credit card information which may be a hurdle for many users, but once they did it might be easier. You might want to really research those that have created apps like this and see how its going. Last thing you want is an owner who spends 5K for an app that doesn't get used. |

As I developer, I would actually recommend a mobile site with built-in order over an app. It obviously depends on what your customers wants, but a mobile site would be a lot easier to build with a checkout process and a visitor could use it right away instead of having to download an app. That would also probably make the whole process cheaper and quicker. They could also go with an already-built solution like this: Web and Mobile Ordering for Pizza and Restaurant Operators | Microworks |
