It can vary depending on client, But if your using twilio and they charge 3/4 of a penny and you charge 5 cents per text you pay $10 for 1000 text and charge $50 or go with 4 cents per text for $40 or 3 cents for $30!

I usually like to start low w 3 cents to get them onboard!

so if you have 10 clients paying $30 that 300 for the month = $200 profit!
or 10 clients paying $40 that 400 for the month = $300 profit and 10 clients paying $50 that 500 for the month = $400 profit!

BTW see this Reseller platform here in the forum

Price range may vary dependent upon your cost. If you're purchasing credits starting at 1 cent per text, typical mark up would be to 3-5 cents.

Are you reselling SMS. Or are you selling services to businesses? If you mean businesses in your local area, a flat monthly fee, with done for you service is best.

Interesting fact:
The first text message from an individual was sent in 1992, and these years have certainly seen an increase in popularity of text message marketing.

When charging by the text, you are going to need to figure out how to differentiate yourself so potential customers choose your service over the competition. Otherwise, wouldn't a potential customer just go with the lowest price they can find?

What will make your service better then the other guy?

Imsolutionsgroup brings up a good point - you need to offer a reliable product/service when advertising a higher price to your prospects. It is often a case of "you get what you pay for", but in these economically tight times, a lot of people want to go with the cheapest offer around. Well, you just have to make sure that the client knows what they'll be getting when they pay you more than they would pay for the competitor's product/service. Just something to keep in mind.

I recently gave an SMS marketing system quote to a business that had 3 locations. I worked out a monthly price based on subscribers, then worked out a price structure that was more scaled to the number of texts sent.

Both were basically the same - I worked out the pricing at 4X my cost, which is pretty low from what I usually charge. At 3/4 cent per text, that put the texts at around 3 cents each.

The client balked at the price and is still currently looking for a "cheap" option. Business owners are all over the map, and most just dont get the principle of ROI, but pricing at least 3-4X your cost is a good rule of thumb. If you can get 10X, that's even better.

Right the higher the mark up the better, but buyers aren't stupid. They are looking for value, I would say in most cases where you see markups at 10x, these businesses are doing more than providing a sms web portal for mobile marketing.

They are often adding value to their package but offering a full managed solution which includes managing the sms mobile marketing campaign as well as initiating the creative thought for how the campaign should be rolled out and executed.
