I am opening this up as a new thread to see if anyone has any experience of monitizing"mobile traffic" as I am struggling to make money through adsense.

I cannot seem to even clear the hosting costs at the moment and I am thinking of taking it off line :-(

I have checked my stats and ios says 33% and Andriod says 26% of traffic that means that 59% of my traffic is from mobile devices.

In 2011 59% of traffic was from windows and only 18% from both iphone and Android and I was clearing double in adsense revenue, which covered hosting cost (just). This is really strange for Google to send me this traffic. I wonder why...that mobile is just cheap throwaway traffic and it thinks my site is not worth "windows" or "crome" users?

Does anyone know if this is "normal" to have such a large chunk of traffic from mobile devices? This is really crappy traffic for me as the only option I seem to have is to invest in creating an app which is too risky from what I have read.

I don't have a mobile website and it seems hard to monitize this traffic via adsense as on a mobile as people are in (get the content they want) then leave.

Anyone have any ideas or things you recommend to keep this site online? I guess selling a bespoke products seems a good option but this will be hard via mobile. Any mobile guru's out there?

Its very normal to have this much mobile traffic and will only increase which is why you need the site to be efficient on mobile devices.

I do not seem to get it.Is it on the application that you are getting traffic? besides how much is the total traffic? http://imgrind.com is has been a paid forum which recently became free for all. They specialize in mobile traffic. Check them out.

Here's the thing; if you're just targeting "Mobile" traffic WITHOUT conducting copious research on your end user demographic...

You might have the best luck with "Mass Market" CPA offers.

(Free phones, walmart gift cards, gas cards, installs, etc etc etc)...

One tip? Make sure it's EASY to submit on a phone... (Zip submits, Email submits, etc).

Depending on what you're doing, Mobile traffic is much cheaper than desktop. And many times, you'll need more traffic to convert... again, it depends on what you're promoting/offer.

Mobile is really HOT right now with CPA and building lists. So look into those 2 things.

I have checked out http://imgrind.com my thoughts are that these guys know the mobile market and it looks like they are hitting developing markets (china) rather than the USA. The outlay it seems high on this mobile traffic. On one case study using their software someone paid $7k to make $4k profit. I am a bit of a "too good to be true" kind of person, thus, cannot understand that if they are making so much money why bother with the forum and wasting time giving away there knowledge. Anyone's thoughts?

What's your niche? If you think it's a good fit you can try email submit offers and mobile offers from CPA networks like Peerfly and maxbounty etc.

I don't see a lot of content apps that are on the App Store and Google Play getting a lot of downloads. You will really have to market something like that which can cost more than what you might want to spend. If you want to create a content app then go for it but make sure it is free with no in-app purchases, and just use ads inside the app to earn.

I would definitely look more into CPA as a means to monetize the traffic. Also consider the slew of mobile advertising platforms available. A simple Google search will give you a good list.

With over half your website traffic coming from mobile you should create a mobile responsive site if its not already. Consider swapping out some of the adsense ad units for mobile optimized cpa offers matching your target audience.

Don't worry it happens with most of the website owners. Simply make your website responsive to mobile users so people can see your website nicely in mobile.

And if you have good traffic then i recommend you to create mobile apps on different platform like android, windows or ios and integrate AdMob or other ad services.

So you will get more income from advertisement.

I think you should refer to in two ways to make money:
1. You make an application and load up google play, then make money by letting them download the application in your application. You can take the large networks in some supply, such as FurtherMobi or BrokerMobi.
2. You built a web app for smart phones and do the same thing for the network. I think you will succeed.

You have a couple of options with your mobile traffic. You can build a mobile site. You can run some CPA/CPI deals. Or you can use a redirect service offered my some of the mobile ad networks. You basically redirect all your mobile traffic to them, and they pay you for each redirect. So these ad networks will basically have advertisers willing to buy traffic that is redirected to them. The $ figures involved for each redirect are pretty small, but if you have a decent volume, you can probably earn quite a bit.
