Yeah today was about the most frustrating work day I have had in recent memeory/.

I had so much to do and so much planned.

But my computer has been slowing down last week or two.

And Sites and Pages today took forever too load. Everything is just way slow even my Mouse.
Could not even get into Edit in my Aweber account

Iam just really bummed out today because of getting no work done

Tried uninstalling programs in CP but that didnt seem to help/. Nothig I can see that needs uninstalling

My wife and I have had this special deal with At&t for years now. They get on your Computer and fix anything needed.

But wife did away with Service a few months ago.

So now I am on my own and a target I guess

Any advice would be appreciated. Any thing I could do on my own ?

Or with a free service or program ? Or do you recommend a paid service/program to clean up my Computer and get it running optimally ?

Thanks

  • The obvious start is to run the usual virus scanner stuff, I have Norton 360 and any diagnostic pc health progs you have.

One thing I can recommend (and have not paid for yet) Was Malware Bytes. https://www.malwarebytes.org/ You can download it for free and opt for the trail version of the full version that auto updates just with an email address. (I think its 21 bucks a year) and that will work for a few weeks before you have the option of paying.

I did this recently, let it do it's scans and it got rid of a load of trash that the virus scanner did not pick up. Browsing the net is now a much faster and error free experience on an old laptop. Also if you do end up buying it you can use it on 3 machines.

If it's hardware failing best to backup ASAP, get your passwords written down. It sounds like you are saying its an internet thing though?

  • Try using a different browser.

If it works normally then you know its most likely

    A) browser settings
    B) plug ins
    C) add ons

If it doesn't work, try going to Free Online Virus Scan - Antivirus Software - Trend Micro USA

  • The first thing that you need to do is to scan your computer with your anti-virus.

If your computer did not detect any virus, then try to clean up your computer. (delete files on your temp folder or use ccleaner)

  • It may need a good cleaning out. Dust and dirt can wreck havoc on a PC and slow it down to a crawl (besides the possibility of permanent damage).

  • jetclean was recommended in another post.

then the virus scan, then disk defrag, then disk clean up, and then
the cleaners and registry fixers. About that order as needed.

Microsoft Security Scan - a full scan can take hours
It is free. I'm making you Google it so it will hopefully pick your
correct OS, etc. after you click the link.

    • Yes, CCleaner can be good, but it does tend to get a little too aggressive for my liking!

Or it puts a lot of your files into a desperate area, and if you get confused and press the wrong button, (as l did in the past) most of your PC data will disappear!

I had an issue where my Laptop would freeze up for a second or 3; it drove my nuts trying to figure it out, but l, (after wasting a lot of time with supposed free cleaners, bought Regcure Pro.

That pretty much got rid of that problem!

But if my browser, etc is particulary slow l find if l restart my computer it clears it!

  • I would try turning off all of the startup programs and see if it speeds up.

Go to > Start > Run and type in "msconfig" - minus the quotes - and hit enter. The system Configuration window will pop up. Then go to the "Startup" tab and make sure that all of the boxes are unchecked by hitting the "Disable all" button. - Hit OK, and then let it restart your computer.

    Try this program CCleaner.
It'll clean up all the crap, however you will need a separate Anti-Virus, Anti-malware software such as Kaspersky and Malwarebytes. GET BOTH and clean out completely.
  • OK. I have seen some ideas here but I am adding my 2 cents worth.
Before doing anything, create a system restore point so you have something to come back to if you should cause any damage accidentally.
Then install the following free programs (if not already installed).
    Ccleaner.
    Avira anti-virus.
    Superantispyware.
    Malwarebytes.
Run all of them one by one.
    Then do a disc defrag.

Then see if you are still having troubles.

If you are, perhaps come back and tell us what and maybe somebody has extra ideas.

    Good luck.
  • The programs above are all good.

    I use avast anti-virus.
    Malwarebytes
    CrapCleaner

But every now and then I also run the TDSSKiller because sometimes trojans can slip through all of the rest. It's free - from Kapersky (sp?).
  • I'd also add Spybot Search and Destroy in safe mode (you might have to google how to do that) on top of all the above.
