    • I pulled one like that on a guy once. He was so confused, I never did find out what he was selling.

      I really, really hope that merger doesn't go through. I LIKE TWC. I get great service from them, they're always helpful and pleasant, and we have very few outages.

      At least I don't use them for email, which is one of Comcast's core incompetencies.

    You can NOT just "lose customers"! If they were SERIOUS, what they would do is SELL the customers to a COMPETITOR! Then, the COMPETITOR could switch the boxes, or use the same ones, etc.....

    I mean if you simply disconnect, and say they are gone, and take the boxes, the customers have NOTHING and you can later get them back. And the federal government does NOT care about the customers in this case, but the controlled marketshare. WHY? COMPETITION!!!!!!! The idea is that those customers should have a CHOICE!

    I had outstanding internet service with Comcast in Rockford, Illinois but I did not use any email with them, so I don't have a clue how well they handle email.

    I still have email accounts with the ISP I used two service providers prior to Comcast which was TDS (DSL) even though they quit the Rockford area residential DSL retail business years ago. It costs me $2 a month to keep the same email addresses that I created with them 15+ years ago.

    I had DSL in Rockford with AT&T for a while after TDS, and then when I moved into a new house the DSL service in that area was so slow I was forced to switch to Comcast. Thankfully, they gave me great speeds, great service and a great price.

    When I moved to Iowa last year I was forced to use Mediacom and the price and service level is horrible compared to Comcast...and no, I don't use email with them either. I continue to use my TDS email account(s) and dozens of accounts that I have had on my own servers since the early 2000's.

    That said, I don't watch any cable TV as I was an original Dish Network dealer back in 1996 so I have been watching Dish for 18 years. I did get basic cable with Comcast in Rockford because they gave me a a great "bundle" deal which was cheaper than paying for high speed internet alone.

      Might be dependent on who they bought out and how much of the original staff and infrastructure they left in place. You're the first Comcast customer I've heard say such good things about them.

      I'd wager the experience wouldn't have been nearly as good if you'd used their email service. In one of the tech lists I'm on almost everyone is loathe to badmouth an ISP, and the only one there who doesn't down Comcast's handling of mail is a Comcast rep.

      It's hard for me to imagine a cable company providing better service than I've had from TWC, so I may be spoiled.

    Yeah, existing infrastructure and location can certainly play a big part. When Comcast bought out the previous Rockford cable provider they immediately installed RG11 replacing all of the RG6 and RG59 in the city.

    It's a bit strange praising them as I stole (switched) customers from Comcast and other cable companies to Dish for many, many years. In-fact my best buddy and I both went into the satellite business at the same time in 1996 for Dish (and DirectTV) as I opened a shop up in Rockford and he opened a shop up in Peoria. I bailed out of the business after six or so years and he stuck it out for several years beyond that.

    Once he quit the Dish business after switching thousands and thousands of Comcast customers to Dish, he sold out and went to work for Comcast and for the first year or so he proceeded to switch many of those Dish customers back to Comcast.

    Long story short, he rose very quickly within the company and became one of the top sales reps in the nation. Not too long ago he got promoted to a very high level position with Comcast and he is now based out of Key West banking 200K+ per year overseeing a team that handles the Comcast sales reps in the Florida area that work in the mobile phone (tv delivery) sector at stores like Best Buy etc.

    Dude is a great story for me as I hired the kid to his first real job at age 18. I hired him as a floor salesman at the TV and Appliance store I was managing in Peoria in the late 80's and the kid was great then, probably the best that ever worked for me.

    For sure one can easily be spoiled by great service...
