Hey warriors,

I was wondering what book should I read after I complete "Eye of the needle" of Ken Follett, this one is about WW II spy...

What is your favourite book? And what could you recommend to me? Thanks

Most of the John le Carré books are outstanding (he's a hugely underrated and profound author, underrated mostly because so many people wrongly imagine that his work is "just genre fiction", whereas it's actually very much more than that). His more recent ones are completely up-to-date, of course. But if you don't mind something "slightly historical", then the "Karla Trilogy" (of which the first is called Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), set in the 1970's, are perhaps his very best. All three volumes of them have been re-published together under the collective title "The Quest for Karla", or something similar, now.

The Houdini Girl, by Martyn Bedford, is also a brilliant "mystery"/"crime thriller". (Don't let the name of its current publishing imprint influence you at all: it's currently published "out of genre" for some strange reason.)

There's also an early novel by Stephen Fry, called Making History, which I'd recommend.

The last two, above, are also very entertaining, and perhaps a little easier to read than le Carré.

They're all "in print" and available.

One of my favourite authors is James Patterson. He's very prolific and has plenty of good books to read. I read everything he writes and I know there are more than 30 books to read.

Yes- Patterson is good and very prolific. Apparently he hires others to write some of his stuff and than lends his name to the books (learned this from Wikipedia). This explains how he can have his serial killer crime stories and also romantic love story novels.

Yes indeed - it's quite a big industry. I read a long interview with him recently, in a publishing magazine. He employs many ghost-writers, but does some editing himself, it seems.

The Power of One? You know what? You gave me a great idea. I went back in time a few days and registered a domain name on Oct 4th. (So that you couldn't claim I got the idea from you.)
I wasn't very original either. The domain name has the word warrior in it. I can't reveal it though, it would qualify as a self promotion.
I'm a man on the mission now.

Tuesday's With Morrie is the best story of all time.

Tons of wisdom found within this tiny book.

    Here are some memorable quotes:

"Accept who you are; and revel in it.”

“if you're trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down on you anyhow. And if you're trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float equally between everyone.”

“ 'Everyone knows they're going to die,' he said again, 'but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently.' ”

“People are only mean when they are threatened.”

The Art Of War is good too. The two books go together. One book will teach you how to live. The other, will teach you how to defend yourself. If need be.

    PS:

Greene's "48 Rules Of Power" is awesome too. If you're into that sort of thing.

Bill Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" is an annual read for me. Funny, engaging, and reminds you about what life really means.

Stephen King's Dark Tower series is excellent, as is George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (on which Game of Thrones is based).

Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels are fun reads if you're looking for mind candy.
