The thing about videos like that is they could have had 10 correct answers for every wrong answer, but only the wrongs ones make the video. After all, watching people give the right answer wouldn't be very entertaining.

You're right, of course, but the idea that people could be SOOOOOOO ignorant is SCARY! YEAH, I don't know how governments of some other countries work, don't know leaders, and may EVEN have had problem knowing about things like "spotted dick", but if you are IN the country, you should have SOME basic knowledge, etc....

        I agree with Steve,

People may not know the secretary of state, secretary of Defense or the director of the CIA but give me a break, not knowing who your Vice president is!

Well, I know about a lot of the higher placed people in the US government. I was simply admitting to not knowing so much about british, Canadian, Iranian(Though I know the type, and president), Iraqi, etc...

And I might forgive NON americans for not knowing biden, but they should know more about their government, just like Americans should know about the american government.

There's a show on ThisTV Sunday mornings called On the Spot that is similar to this video. On the show they leave in the people who get the right answers and there aren't to many of them
Most of the time I just figure the people they question just aren't that interested in the subject.
I know I would get the VP question right, but to be honest I've confused Biden with Kerry more then once

You are almost right. However, they had only two correct answers for every wrong answer.

YEAH, there are a lot of countries that FAIL here but, no offense, the US has NO excuse! I can't speak for other countries, like Sweden, etc.... Denmark, for example, says some bad things about swedes, but my uncle was appaled at the way some danes are, and the list goes on....

MAN, people here have fought for education from low grades to higher grades and.... IF THEY ONLY KNEW! MAN, I got a taste of some good methods in the 1st,2nd, 3rd grades, and some later grades, and even from a course IBM gave my father. I actually learned COBOL(COmmon Business Oriented Language, and earlier was THE language used for business applications) from that. I KNOW what kind of technology existed over 50 years ago! I can only assume that they don't use it EVERYWHERE because, approximately 50 years ago, a union decided that education was less important than comfort and pay for teachers. So more efficient forms of teaching and processing it may be abandoned because they endanger jobs. That may be one reason for the common core. The lack of a correct answer, and vague scoring means a computer can't really score it. It also means that questions and problems are more varied.

You would think that these people represent 1% of the population. But I read (I think on Bill Maher's website) that this was a third of the answers. Meaning that they only had to talk to three people to get one stupid answer.

        That boggles the mind.

        And in further news;

33% of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
42% of college graduates never read another book after college.
80% of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.
70% of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.

Well, I WANTED to have books! Even when I was 4, I asked for books. Admittedly, I spend too much time around TV, etc... But I regularly read reference sites and have to learn a LOT for my job.

People speak a lot about STEM, though a group of idiots is trying to change that to STEAM, but STE and, to a degree, perhaps even M, CHANGE!!!!!! You CAN'T simply learn it in college, because things may change before the book even goes to the presses!

As for the backward priorities? YIKES! Some of these "Americans are stupid" videos then ask a "pop culture" question, and almost all people get it right, even with a VAGUE reference! And YES, I FAIL most such "pop culture" tests, but some of them are rumors, and do I really care who ron howard is maried to now, or whatever? As for "A", it is subjective, often uses what is available and perhaps talent.

This is just more fodder for my deep belief that to be allowed to vote, you have to pass some government courses. Any citizen allowed to take the free education, but you need a certificate to cast the vote. Think of how much further ahead we'd be if we had even partially informed voters.

Well, I took the test. It wasn't a hard one, but then I've had gov and American history classes since Jr. High. Some of the questions are a little picky for someone foreign born and raised.

I will admit though, that I got very confused a few times.
They asked who a Senator represents and I couldn't find "Corporations" anywhere on the answer list.
Then they asked about presidental duties and I couldn't find "golf" on that one.

I took the tests and got 96%. Pretty good for someone whose knowledge of how the American system works was learned by watching The West Wing.

To your point though, one of the questions asked "What is the economic system in the U.S.?"

There was no option for fvcked.

I'm pretty sure you scored around 2/3 higher than I would have on a test about your country. I never was into foreign affairs. In the issue between Israel vs Palestine -- I stay completely out of it because I really don't know the issues. I've seen very condemning garbage on both sides of that border. My take on the situation is we should just butt out and see if we can't concentrate on fixing our own problems and make our own country a great, safe place to live in for its own citizens again.

Give it a try, see how you go. There's four tests of five questions each:

Australian Citizenship; Australian citizenship practice test

Some of the answers are exactly the same if they were asked about the US system.

Don't feel too bad if you "fail" though, as I've read reports that most Aussies wouldn't pass either.

No Sal. It's a prerequisite that you know Australians don't drink Fosters. You have to know that. In fact you have to know that before they consider giving you the test.

That question doesn't grant you access, it's merely the first step on your way to Australian citizenship.

Tell me about it! They spelled democrat wrong! It is a popular grammatical mistake, but it changes the whole meaning of the word! And senators DON'T represent everyone in the state. Sometimes, they represent NOBODY in the state! AND there is THIS question:

        What is freedom of religion?

        Choose one

No one can practice a religion.
        You must choose a religion.
You can't choose the time you practice your religion.
You can practice any religion, or not practice a religion.

******WRONG******* everyone everywhere has "You can practice any religion, or not practice a religion". EVEN CHINA AND RUSSIA! NOPE! It means that the country and all states under it are forbidden to endorse or forbid any one religion.

I mean the test is LAUGHABLE! Schooling is under the states? The states have little control, and the federal government wants to have that! OK, OK, only a few questions are outlandish, but they ARE BIG ONES! Maybe the US government should be required to take this, pass it 100%, and act on it!

They should ALSO ask what an OATH is! If they get it right, they can likely throw the guy in jail for perjury. If wrong? Well, they won't have the job!

Back when Bush was in his second term Letterman hit the streets and asked who the first lady was. Most said Hilary. One said Martha Washington. I almost peed in my pants laughing. Not a single person got it right.

More people should pretend not to know politicians' names. They're full of their own self-importance as it is.

I also got 96% really never knew how many supreme court judges there were ; however here in South Africa we have comedy central and I religiously watch Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report .. The funniest news comedy programs on TV except maybe for fox news (oops)

Also I spent 5 weeks in the USA a few years a go visited over 14 states and many many dinners drive inns and dives ... best 15 pounds I ever picked up in 5 weeks.

Was in Australia this Feb and that on the other hand was good for my diet and health couldn't afford to eat cigarettes were ridiculously expensive and have nasty nasty pictures all over the boxes ... but also an awesome country to visit.

The VP slot, in the American political system, is where you send people if you want them to disappear. As a result, I'm not surprised by that video.

      HUH?

MANY people think the president is limited to 2 terms. They're WRONG! The president is limited to 10 YEARS! WHY? A vice president can then become president 1/2 way into a term, and run for 2 terms. You can't run for 3 terms ONLY because that would be 12 years, and is over the maximum.
