Which do you prefer when it comes to the purest, best sound reproduction and enjoyment?

Not a fan of headphones unless necessary. I'd much rather listen to music via the air.

But then, I still prefer vinyl.

Vinyl supposed to sound better. But who can carry one on the bus?

True enough. I guess in those circumstances I'd have to fall back on reading a book - or (gasp) talking to a companion.

OBVIOUSLY, I WOULD prefer HEADPHONES! I just wish they had a VOLUME CONTROL!

I know, you probably think they DO have a volume control. They DON'T though. It is more of an attenuator. EVEN IPODS used to, and may still, have a warning that they could hurt your hearing. ONE reason is because the volume on the media could be LOW, HIGH, or BOTH. You raise the "volume control" to hear the low, and the high could destroy your hearing. Such garbage is FAR harder to do with speakers.

Headphones creep me out. I'm always concerned someone's gonna get the drop on me and stab me unawares.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

An ex of mine used to insist on wearing headphones where I used to live in town, which was rather prone to a bit of street robbery etc, whenever she went out with friends on a Friday/Saturday and took the long walk back from the station in the dark.

Fortunately (though looking back I use that word loosely) nothing bad happened to her. In perspective, I never left the house with out something heavy but easy to wield the entire time I was there.

      It got well used too.

      Yes true that.
I always make sure I can see every direction anyone can approach me from and am aware of the exits, before I put em on.
