What does it take for this forum to really get it?

What does it take to finally take real pro active steps in ridding the forum of most of the spam posts.

I spotted the below posts a little while ago.

Today as I post this 28 hours later it is still there.

9 other posts have been made since the spam post, It got me thinking aren't these members reporting it, are they reading the op without actually reading the discussion but I reported it and an hour later it is still there which leads me to believe that the spam combating that we have in place is broken and has been for a long time.

I've said this before and so have others, we need a post requirement befor allowing live links. any serious person would be OK with a minimum 50 post requirement.

You were the only one to report it. Spam in the middle of a thread isn't likely to be seen by a mod if it isn't reported.

So, the delay was actually slightly less than an hour, on a Saturday morning.

Well that leads me to believe either the members that posted don't read through the treads or they just don't give 2 cents.

I've seen dozens of forums that have a minimum post count for live links and I've also seen where your first few posts were moderated before going live, surely that would help.

There's any number of things that would help. It's just a matter of if ownership is willing to take any action.

Set up a few hurdles for new members, as Joeseph suggested, and have an option for new members to pay a 98 cent fee if they don't want to jump through the hoops.

I don't think eliminating spam has the same priority it used to have.

If I see a blatant example - I report it and move on. If the owners of the forum want it gone - it will be gone. If they don't - it won't.

We don't have ownership or editor rights here with the exception of reporting blatant spam. I think the new mods are trying to keep up but some things fall through the cracks and the "experience level" of new members makes this a prime target for spammers.

We have tons of new members and most have not read the stickies. They don't seem to recognize spam or be concerned about it....there's a limit to what other members can do. I see no reason to take on the "editing" of this forum in a personal way and I don't think you should, either. It just leads to frustration.

Paul has a point I forgot - several reports of the same post will get it deleted but it's not always instantaneous.

All it would take is to charge a few dollars to join. I had to pay, after lurking for months, as did others. Most of the spammers would disappear pretty quickly.

My suspicion is that the new owners will not do this, as they're likely more concerned about showing their public shareholders site growth, rather than actual discussion quality.

There were a lot of spambots posting at the end of threads yesterday. I reported a few myself. When they're just blatant thread OP I don't bother - but, it really needs to be reported inside of threads. It's not realistic to expect every thread to be examined every so XX often. If we don't report it at least inside the threads, I think that's a little hostile to the mods. We always did this for Paul and it was no problem to us.

There was a lot of spam in here last night........but from what I could see it was being taken care of pretty fast. If they "didn't care", it would still be there.

I don't travel out of the OT. I have noticed that the mods have been pretty good at getting rid of spam here. Many times I would report a thread and it is deleted before I finish the report or shortly after.
