I just came back from a 5 day holiday and some much needed rest from the computer and these 4 walls.
I wonder if anybody even noticed my absence?

I don't think about it anymore when I don't see people around for a few days. It seems to be happening more and more now.

However - now that you've told us specifically why you weren't here - why dontcha tell us about your vacation?

Well, Sal, seeing you asked so kindly.....I went interstate to visit a man I have been friends with for over 6 years, thanks to online work and the internet, BUT had never met, until Friday. Now I can put a flesh-and-blood face to the online persona and nothing changed. We enjoyed long chats, a barbeque, some yummy meals (he's a former chef and I am a lousy/lazy cook), some medium length walks for exercise, fresh air and more chatting.

I got away from my computer and my 4 walls and was very glad that I did.
Especially with 2 surgical procedures happening within the next 3 weeks.

    So there you go!

@Rick... the only souvenir I can share is that you should all take a holiday at least once a year. It recharges the batteries and gets you offline for a change.

Sounds like a fun and relaxing few days, Laurence. It's always fun to meet a friend you've made online. I've really enjoyed meeting my website members. We get away from the computer together often in the summer and they're some of my best times.

Good luck on your surgeries -- and do come back quickly so we'll know you're okay.

    Thank you Sal.
One is a cortisone injection (a second one) and I think it will do more good than the first one.

The second is a 4th procedure to remove benign skin cancer from my nose as it has returned. (At least this time I know what I am dealing with.)

I did think you were "quiet", actually ... and am glad you got away for a few days. It must be spring, down there, now?

      Nearly summer?

That tends to be the way, with many of those things. Good luck!

Ach ... that's a nuisance. Basal/squamous cell, I suppose? Inconvenient and of "cosmetic" significance, and let's hope nothing worse than that!?

      Welcome back!

Considering you went 5 whole days without The Internet, we were thinking of sending out a search party.

@Lexy, Squamous cell and more than cosmetic as it can spread and get worse if not removed but not the malignant kind which is great.

You're right about the cortisone. The first one helped and this time I have an injection into C4 and C6 so it should help a LOT more.

It is nice to be back and online again too.

@Jonathan...5 whole days with no internet was weird but good too.

Yes it is Spring. I went before it got too hot and before I had my procedures and had to recover.

Yeah like you said earlier, it's good to "unplug" for a while now and again. Thanks for the reminder.

I "unplug" for several days fairly frequently, and for at least one day every week. I call it a sanity check. Love it when I'm unplugged, but like to get back to my friends online, too.

    Unplugged? That does not compute.

Good luck with the surgeries, Laurence.

lol@Dennis and thank you as well.

I loved being unplugged and had placed notices in various places that I would be unplugged but when I got back I still had 390 emails.

@Sal...you used a word I don't know. "Sanity?" What is that?

I'm not real sure, Laurence. I've seen it used enough to extract some idea from the contexts, though. It seems to be a state of mind that is tranquil, lacking rage and propensity to want to kill anyone, or throw a computer out the window. Stuff like that. For me, it's the calm and clarity I feel after a few days out in the field and returning with a whole back seat loaded with petrified wood or agate.

Ahhhh Sal. Now I remember. I think I had a day of "sanity" once. I think it was back in the 1990s. LOL.

Seriously, since I was forced out of the traditional workforce and only a disability pension, I enjoy working from home as my own boss.
I admit I do have crazy days but I also have really enjoyable ones too, moreso than when working for a B.O.S.S.

I had some sanity days while I was away on this trip too.
Unplugging is the quickest path to getting a little sanity, whether it's for a few hours or a few days.

I am also reading a great book right now. Well, haven't read much yet but a good friend in poor health swears by it. It's called Energy Medicine and it's aim is to help you become healthy by using a variety of techniques.

Welcome back, and hope all goes well with your upcoming medical procedures. There are many time when I think that just hanging out somewhere else off the 'puter would be a terrific idea. So, what do I do about it? I've ordered a cheap little laptop.... oh, don't ask why I did that, it's because everyone else has one and I don't. Just one more reason to stay out of Starbucks.

You mention 4 walls, I do hope you have a bit more space than just one room.

@April, actually I have 2 rooms. I live in a studio appartment so it is one room which has my bed, living area, cooking area, etc and a small room with toilet and shower. But it is all I really need for myself. I do have some garage space outside for storage though.
