Ok, here is a strange middle name:

Strange

Strange isn't it?

Robert Strange McNamara: The Secretary of Defense who just died and was known as the architect of the Vietnam War. ( great way to be remembered Strange! )

Robert McNamara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How would you like to have that middle name as a kid?

At least he had one. I have no middle name - drives bureaucrats crazy. In college it was always "don't be shy - what is it?" In the government they had to give me one - NMI ie no middle initial.

Would it be possible that is his mother's maiden name or something - you know pre-hyphenated generation?

Like if you married a girl named Vera Strange

You have a kid today his name might be Very Strange-Phelan?

I did grow up with two brothers named Bill and Jack Strange - and no they weren't.

Strange is like Zappa's kids - Moon Unit, Dweezil, Omit ('rhymes with vomit') and God knows what the 4th one is... lol...

Yes, you are correct. It was his mothers maiden name. I can just hear the mother now saying to her husband: "Honey bunch. I think it would be an honor to my side of the family if we give young Bobby our last name for his middle name, as strange as it may sound."

By the way, can anyone say what the the S stands for in Harry S Truman? No Google allowed?

You are right sir! The S didn't stand for anything, but was given to please both grandfathers. I guess it is common among Scots-Irish ( Tommy?)

OK so give it up already.

The question was supposed to be answered and we have people too kind to answer even if they know it.

That is both for harry S and ulysses S.

Let's have it so I can stop trying to think of names with S, okaaaaaay?
