As a woman, I feel very proud to this domestic violence victim who just made her boyfriend arrested for domestic violence unaware. She called 911 and order a pizza!

      I agree Kay. The report said there had been multiple domestic violence calls from the address so she had obviously had to deal with similar situations before.

    We don't know why she has not left yet.

    Maybe she's not clever enough.

    Maybe protecting her kids from, in her mind, bad social services decisions.

    Maybe he is the kind of ass who walks through restraining orders and
    will hunt her down and beat her or kill her.

    Maybe she is trying to get the job skills and financial skills and savings to be able to leave.

      There are no valid excuses to not leave an abuser. Not one. Call me jaded from my experience at the crisis center, but these women need to get out. These women end up being a burden to society when they refuse to look at reality. They burden hospital systems, they burden law enforcement.

      Abuse doesn't go away. It escalates. Women who put up with it are risking their lives. They can cry about scared to leave but it would be more logically correct to be afraid to stay. Children of anyone who makes 2 emergency calls over abuse need to be taken out of the home immediately. A third call to emergency for abuse.....and they should just hang up and let her deal with whatever she has to deal with unless she's ready to get out right then and there and not go back.

      I left the center because I lost my empathy. It got real old watching women come in week after week to the groups and the sessions turned into nothing but "wahhhhh" fests. Then once in awhile women stopped coming because the abuser killed them.

      I just have no empathy for serial abused anymore. If you're being abused - the only thing you should be doing is getting yourself organized to get out. If you are abused and are leaving your children in the situation, you don't need kids.

      Tough love.

        I absolutely agree they should get away and be better prepared to take care of themselves and kids
        if need be. And they can be a burden to taxpayers and charity groups.

        It's just that I've seen that it does not happen overnight. With women I know personally and via
        ones who briefly get placed at my hotel by shelter groups. We've had a couple of serious cases. One
        family was being moved from their home state because the guy was so dangerous. Another was local
        and I'm ticked that they put her here for a short stay before getting her out of county. Reports from the
        staff were that he was the kind of guy who would have friends search for her, was a drug dealer, and had
        serious guns.

          Oh hell - they needed to get her out right away. If that was local, they risked every member of your staff pulling that one. Geezus it sounds like the police haven't gotten an ounce smarter since I lived there. I still remember watching one of those idiots pull a person off the highway during an ice crisis there -- the downhill of 70 just coming into Georgetown from Frisco. There was a pile up at the bottom - the cop ended up with several cars sliding into his car. He looked surprised when it started getting hammered. Duh.....drool. Whoever put her there would have gotten their butts chewed royally had I been there.

              That's actually the problem with dealing with the cops on issues of abuse. They often make things worse than better. It's better for the woman to get into a crisis center where they have resources and support systems. They understand the problems there and can give much better solutions if they don't do it like the center I was at and have "group sessions" where the women end up getting addicted to the sympathy and doing nothing but running for their "awe poor baby" fix every week.

                In these cases I don't deal with cops, I deal with social services types from non-profits.
                The facts don't unravel as fast as we'd like.

                Our participation is as a community service and usually for a night
                to get the person out of the situation NOW. Sometimes the cops do drop them
                off with us, but it's on behalf of the non-profits.

                These rarer cases have been until the right shelter opens, or a better living situation
                is arranged.

                One time a 25 year old girl was living at home and being beaten by Mom.
                They found a relative she could go live with.

    This kind of thing probably isn't THAT unlikely. There have been kids that have phoned 911, and simply made sure the operator heard the surroundings. The 911 operators are LEGALLY REQUIRED to investigate, and take all calls as legit. Technically, the jerks on Die Hard broke the law when they told McCain to move to another frequency or call 911(he used CB #9 which is supposed to have the SAME status as 911)! THAT was when he used the famous line...."Does it sound like I'm ordering a pizza?". They eventually sent an off duty officer to look on a half hearted effort to satisfy their duty, and McCain made sure he was pulled in.

    And they get calls from people that are younger than 5, can't clearly communicate, and act like they are kidding, and the problem turns out being very real.
