Until around last week, Radio personality Jian Ghomeshi was a star and commonly regarded by Canadians as the face of Canada. His style was polite, soft-spoken and educated. Few people apart from his victims realized that he was a sadistic sexual predator.
2 women come forward, Toronto police investigating Jian Ghomeshi...
In total 'at least 9 women have made accusations against the 47-year-old Ghomeshi, most or all telling a story of attacks that included punches and/or hard-slaps to the face or head and choking

It was on the radio here a few days ago. Last Wednesday to be precise, on NPR if I recall correctly. I know it was Wednesday because I was heading down past the Rabbit Rock area. Just not 100% sure on which station I had on.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Americans tend to be fine with the idea of Canada and all, and sometimes call Canada "Our friend to the north", but we hear a lot less about Canada than you guys do. As for sexual predators, some may effectively play the part of a nice guy. Covers don't always give you a good idea of what the book is about.

I live in Canada I don't even know about that guy.

Truth is , the CBC sucks, it's a waste of taxpayer's money that could be better used for other things

I was very familiar with him and listened to a number of his shows. Billy Bob Thornton, being interviewed in his capacity as a musician, was vilified for being rude to Jian Gomeshi on his radio show. Now Billy Bob Thornton is probably seen as a hero by many Canadians for that, LOL.

The CBC has produced a mixed bag of various degrees of quality. I'd have investigate it to formulate an opinion of its worth. However, I've personally enjoyed a number of CBC radio shows and my son likes the station because he primarily favors classical music.

Canadian news on CBC seems to be more in-depth than American news. Americans have told me that they watch Canadian news to find out what's really going on in the States.

Again, I'd want to investigate further to formulate an opinion of it. On one level, my personal experiences with, say, Telefilm and its elitist closed club, taxpayer-funded, and such Canadian-tax subsidized crap as Men With Brooms and Bubbles Galore (easily the worst movie I have ever seen in my life) kind of makes me -- on a gut level -- feel what you're feeling. Jian Gomeshi's radio show was actually closer to the American template and was getting record audiences.

That said, when it comes to taxpayer-subsidized stuff, many of the biggest beneficiaries of tax-subsidies are the loudest voices against tax subsidies. Their real objective is less subsidies for other things so they can get more subsidies for themselves. Thus, the highly paid lobbyists. There's money in them there policy changes.

Never heard of him - but that doesn't surprise me a bit. A lot of serial killers also come as a surprise to the people who knew them. It'd be nice if there was a "look" you could pinpoint as dangerous, but there usually isn't.
