Frustrated in Thailand

Nooo not that way ... not the way you think

Living in Thailand has a lot of advantages which I am sure many fellow warriors who live here would agree.

But lately, since the military coup, I am experiencing a lot of "time outs" when I try to access different websites .. even my own and in a great many cases, instead of the page I was hoping to arrive at, I end up on a Thai government page of some sort. (I've never bothered translating the page - perhaps I should) but it is beginning to get worse and is so damn frustrating when you have work to do.

Any other warriors having the same issues? .... or is it just me ....has the junta finally caught up with me?

I agree that the Internet speed sucks now... because they are filtering all traffic and that's slow down everything. It's usually not too bad during the day, but after 4:00pm, it's getting worse until 8:00pm.

I am not seeing the gov page, only experience a delay for loading websites. Especially slow when accessing back-office of WP blogs...

    I am in Bangkok.

    Best,

It doesn't have to be that way. You need to use a "proxy" or "VPN" to "get around" the governments archaic attempt to control its people.

Many governments (some more than others) are afraid of the idea of free communication because it challenges their power. Since for many of them, power is all they know, this idea of freedom of information is a threat.

Fortunately for you, this is an easy problem to solve by using a VPN or proxy.

I'm in Chiang Mai, I haven't really noticed much difference 'Internet' wise since the Coup. I do seem to experience a worse service during the rainy season though, when we also get a lot of power cuts. But now the rains have stopped seems to be OK.

Gotta make fast, always-accessible, uncensored net access a priority if you're going to make your living online...

Hmmm, this is very worrying. I was working out a tentative plan to go to Bangkok and Pattaya this December and stay for a month to escape the bleak dark UK weather and concentrate on getting my online biz ideas moving.

So I was about to put up a post asking for recommendations for inexpensive but decent hotels with very good broadband :-o

I would think using a proxy would not help if you're in a place where everything is being filtered / delayed etc. because the central issue is your connection speed and a proxy isn't going to improve that (most will slow you down further).

Same here. It's extremely slow in comparison. With and without a vpn.
