I read the indictment that's linked to in the article. This sure seems like a stretch to me. The government is pissed off because someone is selling information on how to fool them.

Maybe they ought not to rely on polygraph tests?

That certainly seems to be what most countries' legal systems, and many psychologists think?

Though having police relying on them as an investigating aid is a whole different matter from the legal admissibility of their findings, isn't it?

There is an interesting point of law, there, though, perhaps? If you know someone's guilty of an offense (but how? That's determined by a court, after all), and help them to conceal the fact, in many jurisdictions I think that probably is a crime? ("Accessory after the fact"?).

    Interesting "gray areas" of jurisprudence?

I thought polygraphs had already been discredited and were no longer counted as evidence in a trial.

I have ALWAYS said THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A LIE DETECTOR!!!!!!!!! Maybe that is why they generally call these things what they are:

    POLY - MANY
    GRAPHS - CHARTS OR PICTURES

They do NOT tell you if a person is lying! There may be one that shows blood pressure, another to show pulse, another to show skin conductivity, another to show voice variance, etc....

They work on the IDIOTIC theory that these things change in a predictable way when you lie. THEY DON'T! Some people could lie and not budge ANYTHING, and other people could tell the truth and the needle would go all over the place. The industry KNOWS this, and belittles it by saying that is why you need a TRAINED polygrapher, and why they ask questions to get a base line. Meanwhile, crooks teach about practicing through stress to reduce effects, and using thumbtacks in the shoes to throw the machine off at key points.

When you LIE, it supposedly adds stress. Some lie with no stress, and some get a LOT of stress by just being ACCUSED!

Stress tends to raise blood pressure. Even a COLD can! Not eating enough may.
Stress tends to raise pulse. "
Stress tends to make you perspire. "
Stress tends to change your pitch of speech. MANY things could.

Newsflash: People have been lying to governments, and everyone else, probably since grunts, clicks, and specialized hand-waving were used to communicate meaning.

I see it's the government that is unhappy about this. But, I know I'm a fool and whatever else for thinking about all the lies the government tells the people. Maybe I'm being harsh 'n hasty to think the government lies. Harsh, hasty, unpatriotic, and so on and so forth.

My government is the most lying bunch of jackals that ever hit the planet. They seem to be legally okay about lying to us. Made it legal in 2003 for the press to lie to us. Sorry about their luck. If we want to lie to an organization that uses lies as a foundation - so damned what?

Wait a minute ... you mean the government can lie to us, but we can't lie to the government ? That doesn't sound fair at all ... I'm deeply disappointed.
